All that hassle to connect jump leads. Why didn't you just remove the starter cover (1 bolt) and connect there? Later machines have a positive terminal on the outside of the starter cover.

My wife went from a Blackbird to the 1100S and now she would never go back. I think you would need a long test ride to realise what fun the 1100 is.

Ned, I am 5'9" but have short legs. The S is much lower than the R1150RT that I had and a little lower than the K1200GT that I had. I think it is down to the narrow seat at the front, which gives more confidence to us short leg people. Both of our bikes have the blue (standard short) springs fi...

Ned, Speaking of just the S models there were no too many changes over the years. My wife has a 2001 and I have a 2004, the main differences are: Brakes. The later bike has BMW stamped on the calipers and bigger disks, the earlier has Brembo and smaller disks. Both are non ABS and both seem to be go...

You are correct that most of our supermarket petrol pumps now take UK cards, but with anything other than Nationwide you will pay £1 or £2 transaction charge. That can be quite a lot if you are paying a £3 motorway toll, or 10% on £20 worth of fuel. I sometimes find that my Nationwide card will work...

Allen headed plug about 2 inches from the filter is the engine oil drain.
The gearbox one is further back, 14mm and above the cat or Y piece.

I am saying why buy expensive tyres but cheap oil? Your tyres are the only thing between you and the road, but your oil is the only thing holding the moving bits of metal apart in your expensive engine. The thing that has been said many times is that the engine is an old design so does not need high...

Best card to have is a Nationwide debit card, there are no costs for getting money out of a cash machine here in France.

And buy the cheapest tyres that you can find and change them every 2000 miles.

Works fine in both of our bikes. In this climate it withstands heat better too.
I was suffering with oil temperature problems on my microlight (100bhp Rotax engine) and was advised to go to a fully synthetic oil on that too.

We use 5W40 full synthetic in our bikes. Why don't you wait till after you have been to France as full synthetic oil is much cheaper here. I pay around 15 euros for 5W40 and 18 euros for 5W50 fully synthetic.

The maximum here in France is not exactly 100bhp, it is measured in Kw and works out to about 106bhp. Make sure that you get a certificate of conformity from BMW UK before you leave as it will cost nothing from them and if you decide to get one from BMW France you will not only pay for it but have t...
