Re: Oil Sight Glass

popsky wrote::) Hi Gripfast, do you have a link for the oil change kit, as my 12s could do with a bit of loving, cheers in anticipation :D

The oil change kit from motorworks is just a filter, a crush washer and a pair of gloves. Link below.

Re: Oil Sight Glass

Thanks for the replies. I’ve ordered the oil change kit, and will see what happens when I drain the old oil out. Cheers.

Oil Sight Glass

Does this sight glass look full of oil? My R12S was serviced last May, and I’ve checked the oil level several times since then, and it has looked correct. But when I checked a few days ago, I couldn’t see the oil level and assumed that the sight glass had gone opaque, so ordered a new one. However, ...

Back to One Bike

I had a good year touring on my R12S back in 2015, including a trip to Spain, and a week in the Scottish Highlands. But at the end of it, I decided I needed something more comfortable for long days in the saddle, so got myself a Tiger 800. The Tiger is a great bike; comfortable, handles really well,...

Restore or Replace?

The valve covers on my R1200S are quite badly chipped and marked, especially around the leading edge. Ideally, I’d like to keep the originals and have them restored, although it looks like I could get a new pair for £185 off eBay. Has anyone on here had theirs restored?

Re: Marquez.

I see he is getting yet another operation to try to fix his arm. If that doesn’t work, he might not be back. I’m not a big MM fan, but he is a hell of a racer, and managed one of his miracle saves a couple of weeks ago. Haven’t seen him do that for a while. So I have to wish him well, and hope that ...

IOM TT+ TV Anyone?

I signed up for the IOM TT+ TV service (£14 for online access to all practice sessions and races). Seemed like reasonable value to me - I was expecting something like BT Sport coverage of MotoGP. Only day-1 practice available to judge by thus far, but I’m not impressed. Interview sound quality is so...

Re: Where's the time gone?

42 years ago today I saw Led Zeppelin at Knebworth  Were you there? They played Edinburgh back in 69 or 70. My friend was at uni there and sent me a ticket. On the day, I looked at the weather and couldn’t be arsed driving there from Dundee (a mammoth 60 miles in a clapped out MG Magnette). ...

Re: Battery, voltage regulator or...?

Developments in trying to get this solved: 1 - my digital multimeter was giving me false readings. I checked a new 9v battery and got a reading of 14.3v and a new 1.5v battery gave me a reading of 2.4v. I changed the battery in the multi-meter (ironic ehh?) and am now getting correct readings. The ...

Re: Lithium Battery - Long Term Experience Anyone?

I have had a lithium battery in my k12R for 7 years and it has just failed. I am replacing it with a new one. Be aware that at there are lot of manufacturers jumping on the bandwagon and making LiFePO4 batteries but are using cheap cells with overrated claims as to their performance. I am putting o...

Lithium Battery - Long Term Experience Anyone?

The battery in my R12S is struggling to turn her over after barely 18 months from new. I'm guessing the lack of regular use during lockdowns hasn't helped, although I do put the Optimate on every few days (it's impractical to leave it connected). The last few charges, it's gone to recovery mode firs...

R1200S Drive Front Gaitor

I noticed that the drive front rubber gaitor/boot is looking past its best before date. Is this something I should treat as critical for replacement? It's due for a service early next year, so will probably ask the guy to do it then.

Red wire is the battery charger.
