Re: Front brake on the R 100?

Ok. So, nobody knows for sure. So here comes my theory on it: Tank slappers. Anything that has a degree of freedom to move (in this case rotation) also has a resonating frequency. There’s a wiki on this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moment_of_inertia That’s too much to “digest” for a man born of a ...

Re: Front brake on the R 100?

It works fine if all set up properly and is out of the weather. I have a twin disk system on a 79 R80/7 that runs this system. The only real issue is you cannot check the fluid level quickly, but there is a low level warning system built in. Lots do change to the later handlebar version ( I have th...

Front brake on the R 100?

I’ve been wondering about this for a long time. What’s the point of this feature?
First you have a cable at the handle bar, that goes to a hydraulic cylinder that sits below the triple tree. From there hoses to the brakes. It just seems daft. Why not have the brake cylinder at the handle bar?

Re: What’s with the log-on-to-read?

Ok. Got it. Thanks. There are many ways to look at this. Before I register to a forum, I like to browse around. How frequented is the forum? What is the tone of the members? Is the forum strictly or loosely moderated? I believe, that if the forum is open to read (but not write) without membership, r...

Speedos are allowed by law to over-read, but not under read. I can't remember if it was law or a guideline, but I seem to remember that max allowable over-read was 7%. In fact, I think there’s a EU law that says that it’s mandatory for speedos to be a little bit on the over-read side of true speed....

I'm sure there's a stick coil puller in the tool kit that comes with the bike. It's worthless. Two screwdrivers work much better.

It's a safety feature isn't it - stops you riding away with the side stand down? Some people remove the switch to disable the feature. My BCR runs with the side stand down. But when engaging a gear, the engine dies if ss is down. Rarely do people ride off without putting the bike in gear, so that s...

My old R1100S would only start with the bike with the side stand up. This has been discussed before and it seems that it only applies to bikes built around 2000 - 2002 and even then not all do this. Thanks for reply, giving it some thought I am guessing that letting a air cooled bike idle on its si...

2. Left cyl cam chain tensioner clatters a bit until it fills with oil. It gets worse if oil level is low. There's threads on it on this forum.
Motorworks has parts to get rid of this noise.

There are no autochokes on the Bosch motronic system. Only temp sensor(s?) that give cold running fuel enrichment. So, first thought would be to focus on it (those?). But then again, a faulty temp sensor would have your engine run poorly until it's warmed up. It wouldn't give you those glitches you'...

Another thing: Caption says: carbon covers for R1100 RT. This means they are for single spark.
If twin spark, then it would be: carbon covers for R1150 RT.

Remember, only the R1100S kept the smaller displacement when going from single to twin spark.

I don't think they'll fit. In this pic, you have a twin spark. The carbon cover is held by the front upper and the rear lower valve cover screws. http://s317.photobucket.com/user/saltness/media/101_0629.jpg.html I think this is a single spark. The carbon cover is held by two screws in the middle of ...
