Re: Vintage bikes.

Chris, Go for it. Get another vintage bike on the road. I absolutely love my vintage bikes. And in the right situation, they are the best thing to ride; they make the right sound, get the most attention, and (usually) put a smile on my face. But it ain't all sunshine and rainbows. Keeping vintage bi...

Re: R1100S Output Shaft Seal Woes

I was advised that in placing the washer over the bearing, I've likely blocked the oil path back from the seal through the bearing into the gearbox... so I'll be removing the spacer this weekend.

Re: R1100S Output Shaft Seal Woes

I think I've got it sorted, based on some feedback from the BMWMOA forum. In every case, I've replaced the seal while the transmission was still on the bike AND driving the seal all the way to the back of the housing (against the bearing within the transmission). With the trans on the bike, you can'...

Re: R1100S Output Shaft Seal Woes

Absolutely. I can see the oil forming a ring around the shaft, then dripping/running down the seal face to the transmission housing.

Re: R1100S Output Shaft Seal Woes

Jeff,
Nothing that can be seen or felt on the shaft. We ran 600 grit wet-dry on the shaft (1-2 light passes) just to make sure.

R1100S Output Shaft Seal Woes

Folks, I've posted on the Pelican forum, but wanted to make sure I got a Global perspective on my issue. I've replaced the transmission output shaft seal on my R1100S at least 4 times in the last two years. After the last failure, I was fed up, and completely dismantled the transmission and replaced...

I installed a power block onto mine; http://www.twistedthrottle.ca/denali-powerhub2-fuse-block-master-ground-block-and-wiring-harness-for-motorcycles The power block is installed up behind the headlight, attached to the fairing bracketry(?). Within the power block are two options for each connection...

I went to an auto wrecker and found a few late 90s-early 00s BMWs... cut off a pile of connectors with a healthy pigtail of wires. They charged me pennies for them... and now I have a stash of connectors (pre-wired!) for any work I need to do. Take some photos of typical connectors on your bike, and...

Matt, Looks like I've removed the part numbers from my bellypan. I did locate the identical part on the A&S BMW website listing for "engine spoiler" here; http://www.ascycles.com/Illustrated_catalog2/MicroList.aspx?id=51678&catID=&catname=&bindName=Engine%20spoiler&bind...

Folks, I got a used (and slightly damaged) CF bellypan from Beemer Boneyard about two years ago. Had original BMW stickers on the inside, and fits perfectly around the center stand. I repaired the damage, and painted to match the rest of the bike. I will check it for any other identifying marks over...

All, Just a quick summary of my IOM trip... fantastic. After travelling 1500 miles in 10 days in the UK, I have to say that I've never felt safer and more respected on the road then I did there. As a daily commuter here in Edmonton, I'm constantly having run-ins and near misses with ignorant/blind/i...

Steve,
Agreed... we've got a few long days, but we've really got no fixed schedule. We're used to long distances (it's not uncommon for us to drive 3-4 hours for a day of skiing in the mountains), but traffic is the great unknown at this time. We'll just take each day as it comes.

Thanks for the feedback tanneman, popsky, Herb, eyore and GerryB. Appreciate all your comments. We'll be in the UK from May 25 through June 6. eyore... many sincere apologies for the mistake. As the proud father of Daughter on the Boxer (passenger), I should be smarter with my wording.
