Re: Battery, voltage regulator or...?

The issue was resolved by installing a new battery. I've been riding a couple days a week for the past few weeks and it starts up every time. I'm amazed the old Odyssey battery lasted that long. I got another Odyssey, hopefully it will last as long as its predecessor did. I'm glad my thread saved Gr...

Re: Battery, voltage regulator or...?

Developments in trying to get this solved: 1 - my digital multimeter was giving me false readings. I checked a new 9v battery and got a reading of 14.3v and a new 1.5v battery gave me a reading of 2.4v. I changed the battery in the multi-meter (ironic ehh?) and am now getting correct readings. The o...

Battery, voltage regulator or...?

What with the lockdown and all I haven't ridden my '01 R1100S in several months. Yes, I know, bad for the bike, bad for me. That needed to change. I attached my cheap float charger overnight just to be sure the battery was charged enough to get it started. It cranked hard and fired right up for the ...

Re: Lower fork mounted driving lights

Sorry, should have been a bit more specific. I'm looking at using the fender/mudguard mounting bolts, not mounting the lights on the floppy CF fender itself.

I've new seen a solution that uses one of the caliper bolts to secure a light bracket. That might be what I need to do.

Lower fork mounted driving lights

Where I live (Southern California, USA) most of the motorcycle police ride BMWs. In the last 6 months or so they have mounted very bright LED driving lights down on the lower forks. They are running the driving lights day and night. This really increases the visibility of their bikes. I’ve not been ...

All right, fitted the LED tail/brake light. Seems to work fine: very bright and flashes very fast with the modulator. I took it for a very short spin to see if the ABS lights would go out. They stayed on (which is not unusual for this bike). Sometimes they stay on for the first few rides after a lay...

2001 R1100S, will and LED brake light work?

I'm fitting a brake flasher/modulator that requires an LED bulb both for lower amperage and faster flashing than an incandescent bulb would afford.

Will an LED brake light work without throwing the works into a fit? I'm thinking the 2001 is pre CANBUS so it might work out alright.

Got it all fixed

To get the brakes back to normal I bled from the bottom up. I got a very large syringe (at a DIY store), attached tubing from that to the caliper. Attached a tube to the ABS unit, and pumped brake fluid from the caliper up and out the ABS unit. Once I bled the calipers and lines through the ABS unit...

If it's loose weave mesh - then it is re-usable after cleaning and re-oiling. If it is yellow fabric, then it is throwaway. Each type operates on entirely different principles. Al The mesh looks exactly like what K&N uses in their filters. From the top it's to dirty to see what color the filter...

My inclination is to try pushing the pistons back into the calipers (and holding them there with clamps), then reverse bleeding - pushing fluid from the calipers up to the master cylinder. Any thoughts on that? Also, the mechanic got the master cylinder twisted about 15 degrees toward horizontal com...

Is this a cleanable air filter?

The air filter in in 2001 R1100S looks like a K&N type filter, meaning that the pleats are wrapped in metal mesh, however it is BMW branded.

Is the BMW filter cleanable like a K&N or is it paper with the mesh for support?

To clarify, if needed...

The bike in question is a 2001 R1100S with ABS. ABS only, not the fancy linked brakes.

Ok, got it fixed!

Got it fixed! Took maybe a half hour total. The brackets were easy. The shift and brake linkage extenders are simply threaded rods, male on one end and female on the other. Back off the lock nuts and unscrew. Reattach original parts. Oh, unclip ball and socket to facilitate the unscrewing. Thanks to...

Front brake bleeding advise needed, please!

My front brake lever started going right to the grip. I could pump it up with a few quick squeezes. That didn't fill me with conficence to say the least. Got a master cylinder rebuild kit from the BMW dealer. My mechanic (motorcycle mechanic, but not a BMW specialist) installed the kit. After bleedi...
