Re: R12S parts wanted

There’s 2 silver variations, the shiny one from the “Colgate” red/silver, and the Matt silver which iirc is white aluminium. I purchased the Tail unit for the Magma-Red/titan-silver (71607696570) direct form KFM in Germany and disappointingly it was Matt Silver. The invoice and the Tail unit have t...

Re: R1200S Fuel Pump Controller Failure

Btw the FPC is an easy replacement & could be changed or bypassed on the side of the road with a few tools and a bypass lead if held. I’ve now used the plug from the old FPC to fabricate a bypass lead for future use if required. I’ve also removed the rubberised rear seal of the old FPC and a bur...

R1200S Fuel Pump Controller Failure

My R12S recently would start but then stall again, repeatedly. The GS-911 indicated error code 10168 - 'Electric Fuel Pump System Faulty ... the fault is currently present'. I have just replaced the Fuel Pump Controller (FPC) after diagnosing it's failure and all is now ok again. Seems these failure...

Re: Front Brake Judder

I would first try cleaning your calipers & inspecting the pistons while exercising their operation in situ as per this YouTube example https://youtu.be/0sHQfnbf9t4 . I service mine this way incl. fluid change every 2y & they work GREAT. Good luck!

Re: R1200S instrument cluster removal

When I searched on this topic last October, I could only find the following for a GS, which looked very similar. There’s a few tips in the WRITTEN comments (view reply) of the YouTube clip https://youtu.be/tWhGXn5GmD0.

Re: Rough running R12S

I slow rode London today in first gear (up to 30mph) and maxed out the engine temp before running out of fuel so can say I thoroughly tested it through the temp bands... You may be across this ... the fuel provides cooling and lubrication for the submersed fuel pump. I would avoid running low and p...

Re: Fuel

Off to Italy on the 11S just wondering about what fuel to use? Should I avoid using E10. The bike is a 2000 model with 7000 miles on the clock. Check your Rider's Manual for the correct fuel specification. I believe the R11S has a compression Ratio of 11.3:1 which should require 95RON premium unlea...

Re: Fuel

Fuel Octane requirements is predominantly dictated by the engine compression ratio to assist in controlling the rate of fuel combustion to optimise performance while avoiding pre-ignition (damaging). The R12S has quite a high CR at 12.5:1, for a petrol engine and hence the recommended RON98 Premium ...

Re: Rough running R12S

In the absence of anyone with more experience chiming in ... yes that’s the IA’s & although I haven’t serviced them myself I recall reading at least one thread somewhere of someone successfully opening & servicing them ... have been unable to locate the post. More research here, Pelican Part...

Jon,
Should you not find it to be the stick coils, there’s a few more possibilities covered in this recent thread that might help http://boxertrix.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23496 . Good luck! :x

Re: New to BMWs

Welcome Mick and hope all goes well with the final recovery. To my knowledge the headers on the R12S are polished stainless steel. I’ve had good results using Autosol metal polish (also their stainless steel polish), assisted with a length of natural fibre rope (or even narrow synthetic webbed strap...

Re: Rough running R12S

I’ve only ever run the IA calibration function with a GS-911 and have not had a need to remove, dismantle or service an IA, although I recall reading threads of this done ... will see if I can locate. This link might help with understanding the IA issue http://www.hexcode.co.za/techinfo/iac . Btw, I...

Re: Rough running R12S

I go back to my earlier suggestion of doing a recalibration of the Idle Actuators (IA) using a GS-911 or similar, see if mechanic did this simple operation or can. May also be an intermittent problem with an IA. Also, the staggered idle down from cold start, seems inherent. Your YouTube clip seems t...

Re: Rough running R12S

Btw, throttle cable adjustment for the specified play in the primary cable, is set at the adjuster at the throttle. And this is where the rubber shroud can cause problems if not relocated properly. Initially check for air leaks from the air box to the cylinders by detailed visual inspection of the c...
