Re: Shock advice

Has it had either an adjustable or a short Paralever strut fitted? this will affect the ease with which it goes onto the centrestand.
A picture of the rear end from the right side will give an indication. (with the bike on the sidestand)

Re: 11S fuel filter challenge

The original clips are a crimp on type which cannot be reused
They work well and are not bulky but you need to crimp them using cv boot pliers or the like

2Twins
Don't use Jubilee clamps ( the worm drive type) They can cut into the hose over time.
Use the original crimp on type or fuel injection rated screw type

While you are in the tank, check the U-tube for splits and tight fit on the barbs. Mine had deteriorated so it was loose (only showed when wet, tightened up when it dried)

Re: Clutch

This is fairly normal. With the dry clutch there is no drag between plates so the driven plate stops spinning quickly and the engagement dogs in the gearbox don't line up. A slight release of the clutch lever allows rotation and alignment. Also If you make sure you immediately engage gear after pull...

No personal experience, but pushrod ends are known to give this issue when warm, check the Chris Harris videos on Youtube.

Re: oil level

It's often difficult. with fresh oil to tell whether you have underfilled it or overfilled it since an empty sight glass will look the same as a overfull one. I presume you are checking level on the centrestand as you should If you don't get a result after doing as Mr Charrington suggests then -chec...

Re: Front brake on the R 100?

I don't really see a problem with this arrangement, BMW just wanted to locate the MC more discretely. Most every car has a pushrod from brake pedal to MC. The main problems early 20th century vehicles had with mechanical brakes was balancing out forces to each wheel and accounting for wear of brake ...

Re: R1100S throttle response

I'm interested in one of these too, let us know how you get on with it Its not lack of power that is the issue, it's the ergonomics of getting the twist grip rotated to WOT that is the problem. Attempting to go from cruising to WOT gives quite an exaggerated wrist position, or often does not quite g...

Re: WONT START

Steve, this is probably the best non-running diagnosis guide. http://www.bmbikes.org.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=21616 In particular the method of testing the fuel pump by bridging the relay and checking for flow at the return line The poor running last time it did start sounds very much like ...
