Re: The Bike market today.

I quite regularly look at bikes for sale on Autotrader. Lots and lots of BMWs, far more than I've seen for sale in even in the quite mid winter period. New GS way to expensive and heavy for my tastes. My 2010 1200GS and 2000 R1100S are both over 100k miles each and still bring a smile to my face whe...

Re: Back to One Bike

Make like a German going to the Alps. Trailer your bike to your hotel of choice and ride unencumbered by luggage. If you take your partner they have the car to dink about in.

Could also share costs and holiday with a mate, two bikes on the trailer.

Re: Remember Hein Gericke knee pads?

Remember the product. I think i may still have some lying in a cupboard and spare press studs. Used to find some gear had knee armour but empty pockets for the hip armour or what was there was bulky and/or uncomfortable. Have BMW or Stadler gear these days which has the latest CE armour. Never felt ...

Also saw him at Garmisch doing his thing on the 800s. Then stunt riding on a full dress K1600 in that small arena, unbelievable.

Re: Leaking steering damper.

R1100S. Had bought a used one from Motorworks years ago when my steering damper first failed. Last MOT in Feb 22 and that one had also failed - damper movement was sticky. Its been taken off and the bike passed the MOT. I have a high bar kit on the bike and can't say I notice any real difference in ...

Re: Has Covid restrictions stopped people posting?

Now that we have been liberated by Nicola I've enjoyed a few rides down into the Borders. Coffee and a bacon roll takeaway in Peebles on Sat. Good to see the town with bit of life about it again. Still plenty of salt about as you say. There's usually been enough rain by now to have washed the worst ...

Re: Has Covid restrictions stopped people posting?

Done more miles on my e-bike this year to date than the motorbike. Did take the GS out for a spin up into Perthshire last Sun as the weather was so nice. Pitlochry very quite even for a Sunday but Greggs was open so got an essential roll and coffee. Run back down by Loch Tummel and Loch Tay showed t...

Re: Handlebars

Wunderlich used to also sell their own version of the LSL handlebars conversion. I have the Wunderlich version fitted to my S. A new top yoke and bars. New longer front brake lines were required - I think these were sourced from Hell. Prior to that I had been running with the BMW clip-ons above the ...

Re: Sports or touring?

I've toured quite lot on my S and it can take the miles. Bars above the yokes and a higher than standard screen was my preference. However the higher screen is still low by touring standards and tended to deflect the wind onto my upper chest. Thats fine on nice day but not so good when you're faced ...

Re: 100,000 miles

The S became a second bike at the end 2005 when it had 60k under its wheels. Whilst I'm still averaging about 12k per year most of thats on my GS. However I also inherited my dad's old R80RT a couple of years ago so the mileage is now getting split 3 ways. Doubt the S would make it to another 100k u...

100,000 miles

My R1100S reached a milestone yesterday, 100,000 miles :) :D A 2000 bike that I've owned since May 2001. Since then it's taken me to Europe 7 times, toured the UK and general hooning about in Scotland. In the process its eaten it's way through: 19 rear tyres, 14 front tyres, Probably 9000 litres of ...

Re: Anyone been for a ride yet?

There's plenty of sanctimonious nobbers out there at the moment. The press haven't helped by stoking up the notion that everyone out and about is a covidiot e.g photos of roads with traffic on them - they've no idea who was in those vehicles, the purpose of the journey, etc. Could well have been NHS...

Re: Anyone been for a ride yet?

Riding, yes on back roads. Roads and towns still remarkedly quiet. A few other bikes out. Nowhere open to stop for a coffee or lunch so taking a bottle of water and a snack. Keep myself away from everyone else and pay at pump. BTW, Strathearn Tyres in Crieff has reopened just in time as I need a new...

Eee, its was a bit bracing out on the old S today. MOT and service time. Ready now for when spring does arrive.
