Have used both Altberg & Daytona boots over many miles. Altberg have quite a thick hiking boot style sole are not the best feeling the gear change. Found the Altbergs rather warm for summer use. Daytona (Goretex) boots feel like slippers when on. The older style 'rubber stud' sole on Daytonas is...

See you have experienced the BMW Club at its best. Never met the Forum Administrator but the heavy handed approach and outright censorship will probably turn off quite a few people. Have not bothered renewing my membership this year because of it.

The same BMW Club Forum Administrator closed down several threads in the Scottish Section which were asking the not unreasonable question about what had led the Scottish Section chairman to resign late last year (not long after being elected). Response received from the Forum Admin (especially his l...

Osram high output bulbs are far better value than some of the better known brands such as Phillips of Bosch but light up just as well. Had been looking at Halfords and was shocked at their prices.

Buy 2x Osram bulbs on-line for half the price of one from Halfrauds or Nippy Normans.

Seem to recall an article in one of the bikes magazines a few years ago which estimated the price of building a Japanese sports bike using manufacturer parts was 5 to 6 times the price of the new bike.

It is a sad fact that the old S if worth more as bits than as a whole bike.

There are a few older posts in this forum which deal with the R1200ST. I really enjoyed mine & liked the looks especially in the grey colour scheme. I had bought a 2005 ex-demo bike from a BMW dealer with only 800 miles on the clock, ran it for 3 and bit years up to 47k and then traded in in aga...

If you do remove the steering damper and it is in good condition, drop me a e-mail as I am looking to buy one.

When looking at your routing - it suddenly hit me that I hadn't included the Pass of the Cattle - across to Applecross. You take the turn-off at Lochcarron and rejoin your route at Kinlochewe/achnasheen. The scenery is superb, the pass - more daunting than any hairpin I've encountered in Europe, an...

R1200ST was chopped in for an 08GS in July 09 but now updated to a 60reg 10GS in Sept. The 10 series engine does pick up a lot better, idles better (slow speed in first - on and off the throttle). Quite happy with my purchase and getting the miles on. Had a few problems with the 08 bike which relate...

All model year 2010 GSs have the HP2 engine albeit in a different state of tune.[/quote]

And a very nice engine it is too :) Suits the GS well and none of the flatspot which used to annoy me on my 08GS.

Always been sceptical of Kwik Fit BS advice & recommendations for parts needing replaced. Generally do not use them for this very reason.

Kwik Fit advised me recently that they would only fit winter tyres to all four wheels i.e. no mixing of summer & winter tyres. Not an issue for me as I already have winter tyres (Michelin Pilot Alpin) fitted and was simply looking to replace the worn front pair. Use these same tyres summer &...

Used to have similar fuel smell problem with my S. Turns out that the vent pipe for the tank was blocked. If there is a release of pressure when you open the fuel cap chances are it may be the same blocked vent problem. Dealer managed to clear it with some compressed air and perseverence.

I used the 100W bulbs in my last Honda Civic. Certainly lit the road up more as dip beam was 80W. When I came to change one several years on, I did find they must have generated some extra heat in the wiring as the bulb had almost welded itself into the bulb holder and there was some evidence of mil...
