Check the cables at the cable splitter. Might be too much free-play in them or perhaps one is sticking from being gunged up.

Be advised that the stand bushes for the early single spark bikes are larger diameter than the later twin spark ones.

The silencer hangs on two rubbers which tend to get stuck to the pins they hang off. It can take some effort to break the bond.

I use a rubber mallet to remove and install mine once the clamp is released.

My bike has bad brake judder and came with 3 sets of discs, newest were a set of Hekkane ones fitted April this year and not done many miles - they looked new. all of them are no good, bad brake judder. So my local shop recommended EBC discs and pads - I've ordered them and insisted I want warranty...

Hardly worth shop prices if you're selling privately. I would hazard that if they are in excellent condition they might be worth a couple of hundred together.

I've had four Bandit 600's and I don't rate them as a good year-round commuter. Not because of the bike, it ticks all the usability boxes for short-mid range commuting, but because the electrics degrade when used in foul weather until eventually you find that the bike won't run at all in heavy rain....

They are the same item except for having extra lube grooves. Obviously having the extra grooves means that they must have had failures on the originals (as I did) or they would have no reason to change the design. Either way, the big problem with them is the mode of failure. The originals go slack a...

Yep, it's done exactly how you describe. Fit key, press in keeper, extract barrel. Same goes for the fuel cap and tail lock barrel. It's a few minutes' work. Mine didn't have the security disk you describe (neither of them did) but if it did I would pop it through with a 2-3mm drill.

Fair play :) I didn't want it to seem that I was disagreeing with you personally, I just don't subscribe to the "Manufacturer is always right" ethos. Granted, BMW do tend to be more diligent than many other manufacturers and their workshop manuals are a wonder of Bavarian matter-of-factnes...
