Front Wheel Bearings

Bummer! An advisory on the front wheel bearings at the MoT this morning. No play, but grinding, so do them ASAP. Any recommendations of where to get quality bearings, online or near Milton Keynes, without spending next months salary on BMW dealer prices (I fell foul of that with brake pads - never a...

"I'm happy with the choice i made but i did start out looking for a old brit and bought a modern Harley" I recognise that form of senility. I decided I was going to own my first Triumph, went to Pure Triumph in Woburn, and they sold me a BMW R1200S. I'm still not sure how that happened. I ...

Re. living with an old classic. I'm not certain, but I have been looking at more recent potential classics, such as the Triumph T595. There are some good clean low mileage examples for less than half the price of a BSA A10 (what I'm considering). I'm certainly not looking for a basket case but a rid...

I'm getting 45 to 48 per gallon usually. But there's got to be several factors that affect this, including how you ride and the types of road, e.g. Motorway cruising in top gear, fast flowing A roads in 4th & 5th, or tight twisties in 2nd & 3rd, towns etc. I'm straight into countryside and m...

What part of "excellent condition" don't I understand? This might be worth a bit to a very good motorcycle restoration engineer, but it misses me completely. I was browsing for runner that I can maintain rather than restore. It won't be this one then. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1923-Ariel-V...

Well, that's an effin bar steward to say the least, Steve. It makes you want to do them some harm. I had a nearly new bicycle stolen from the bike rack at work two years ago. CCTV showed a guy in a hoodie walked on to the premises with bolt cutters, cut the cable and cycled off, bolt cutters over hi...

I agree with the others. Advanced training will do wonders for your riding, and for your enjoyment of riding. When I felt on the ragged edge, and people swept past me looking smooth and controlled, that's when I knew I needed advice and guidance.

You won't regret undergoing advanced training.

Several years ago, I was travelling down my favourite local road on my Aprilia Falco when I saw a bike catching me quickly. I felt I was going as quickly as I could but this Harley sportster went past me and off into the distance and I couldn't keep up. Yet he didn't look ragged or dangerous. So I d...

The only thing I like in my whisky is...

...more whisky.

I've been known to drink Bells (sorry Bells, nothing personal) when I can't afford anything better, so I'm the last person to advise anyone. But I do like Macallan, especially when received as a birthday/Christmas present.

Great bike, the Falco. I had a red one too. Kept it nearly 10 years and only the R12S tempted my away. I'd have another one if I had room for it.

Flaking Paint

Paint is flaking off the front of the engine on my R12S. Any recommendations for what type of paint to use for touch-up?

It's a great bike, but the finish is not up to the standard of my old Aprilia.

Hey conkerman, how do you get on with the 955i? I'm weighing up between a classic old 60s bike or maybe a modern future classic like a Daytona.

There are a few good low mileage ones for around 2 grand.

Welcome too.

Forgot to mention sailing too. My friend, a very experienced and qualified sailor, went round Isle of Wight in a force 6/7 yesterday. Said it was challenging. I would completely trust his judgement with regard to sailing, but if something had gone wrong and he needed rescuing, should he be charged w...

A difficult balance to get right. Protect edjits from themselves versus the freedom to indulge our passions. I'm for education, training and information, not laws and rules. There are plenty of folks think we're edjits for riding motorcycles, bicycles, horses, flying engineless aircraft, etc etc. An...
