Niggling running fault on 11s

I'm stumped  and welcome ideas from other boxer riders... Over the last year (around 11,000 miles) I have experienced intermittent poor running on my single-spark 1100s that feels like its electrical and not fuel-related; but more like a hesitation than a failure-to-fire. By observation I hav...

Easier gear-changing

Over the last year I have developed pain in my left big toe, and realised that the gear lever has been the cause -despite wearing good boots. Took linkage apart for clean and greasing, but that made little difference...had a look with boots on and realised just how far I have to move my foot in and ...

My friendly factory-trained Beemer wrench told me that the innards of the throttle cable splitter box should be cleaned and run dry (when he found that I'd cleaned and used Moly grease inside the box) - OK it goes against our history with bicycles, but the cables are teflon lined, and if you oil the...

Nice clean bike. Agree with Nab301 - the squeeking noise is most likely to be Paralever (caged needle roller) bearings, just forward of the bevel final drive. Read carefully the many posts here on Boxertrix, and so long as you support the parts carefully (to keep em lined up and not damage the beari...

Different approach...experiment at virtually no cost. I'm 5' 8" in old money (about 1.75m) and have for many 000's of miles suffered buffeting whenever I drop my head a little. have a built-up seat and taller rear suspension, though. Since raising standrad handlebars over the yoke, its differen...

Would love to see more pictures, and hear your bike, Gus... Now I see the dates will see whether I can get there -and all speed to you. Have you thought of selling small used or worn out items here as a way of attracting small-beer sponsorship (of course tell the opposition that I'd love to pick up ...

In the way that kids look forward to Xmas, I'd also been eyeing that bike up...no intention of buying but thought it looked pretty in airline paint, and of course lighter than the 11S.

Pleased for you

Ahh great video - takes me back...really black engine oil with cheesey emulsion wherever water got in; and speedometers that all had 'Morris-Minoritis' so you had a range of speeds to offer PC Plod when he leaned inthe window

Would I go back - not in a million years!

-ceepee- Yes all R1100 and 1150 engines are like this, with 'captive cups' (were they invented by Berlei?). This series is known as type R259, and much of the valve gear is interchangeable until the 1200 series that replaced them. The more I think about it, the more I like the feeler guage setup. Ch...

As others have suggested this sort of fitting is designed to reduce the sideways pressure on the end of what is a long and potentially bendy valve stem. And I think it helps to slowly revolve the valves in their guides, for more even wear. Tapio - Although I was taught that using a test dial indicat...

Getting there...

FatnFast - thanks for your kind offer, which may keep me mobile and sane! Nab301 - never thought that initial pump run could be timed, which explains why it always runs the same burst each time...another piece in the jigsaw. Thanks all. Ive stripped the wiring on my duff plate, and inside its horrib...

Whilst in good times H-D showed that you can sell bikes complete with fringed jackets as a lifestyle choice, Oh dear, this lot are chasing a ghost market! -Fatnfast- yes I know Cata Dan's service is good, its just that I'm being tight about the cash. Also a brand new unit the Greek (see http://bit.ly/17XXwmo ) price is £89 + 15 P&p. I will have one more look for the connectors then drop Cata a line... The tester design was from 1994, with the earl...

-and leaving it to get scabby and pitted would preserve the value? Don't expect many dealers will give good advice on this; most I've met say 'Standard paint always sells most easily' My take on that is that so long as what you apply: [a] keeps the weather out [b] looks something like the pattern an...
