Like the way you're thinking...good tip -however have checked that, along with Neutral switch (whilst replacing gearbox) and Clutch switch...none was a problem.

Stranded by electric failure

Intermittent problems with 1100S, featuring occasional lack of power; part-load hesitation; lousy running in rain; increased fuel consumption -but little consistency. While this had little effect on the road I read lots of your stories here to compare notes on how symptoms have shown up for others. ...

In the 80's I ran all sorts of tyres, and soon adopted Dunlop RedArrows 'the original superbike tyre' extensively. On a 2-stroke 500 I was getting 4000 miles front (not much contact near roundabouts anyhow) and at the rear; then on a shaft drive yamaha the rear was routinely shot at 2000-2500 miles ...

Yes its a rotten location-by-design, but having been there (twice) I agree with Fatnfast that its a good thing to look into. Like 'CJ' (-remember the Fall and Rise of Reggie Perrin?) I didn't get where I am today without checking the colour of my clutch fluid, to catch this deterioration before 'the...

Conti-motions

No, not something explosive that happens behind the smallest door... First set of CM's have now done 1600 miles trip up to Cairngorms and Western Isles (and some totally brilliant roads - and I'm genuinely impressed with touring and going-for-it cornering both wet and dry. As Mr Parry says the...

Bulbs keep blowing....general advice is don't keep replacing them, until you have tested the regulator output voltage. Last year my alternator went west, and before it blew had spiked enout=ugh over-voltage through to also sh*g the battery - so I'd say if you can't borrow one, the cost of a simple b...

Rubber Chicken bushings

-just ordered...that's the good news. 2 years ago, as the 4th set of bearings went in I swore I'd never fork out (jest) for another set of inappropriate taper brgs. Last week I found the dreaded play at rear wheel again - which explained why the rear end was hopping and snaking over white lines, ban...

We may be square or conservative, however I'd also shy from using a taller section tyre than standard because it would mean riding around/off the side slope on harder corners. Not much point in slightly speeding up the steering, if youre gonna have a moment in the best part of the next corner is the...

It is an unusual fixture, but only rarely removed. Those 3 screws and plate hold the fixed (Right side) s/arm pivot pin, which sits inside the taper bearing. And the adjustable end on the left side works against it, so its as well that you nipped up the loose screw. Be worth checking the s/arm for f...

That clunk...

Yeah 14k is very short life. Recommend getting the front of the bike off the ground with a jack, and a mate to hold the rear steady while you check that front end. Wear in the forks or brakes is easy to distinguish then. I'm pretty sure that the 1100S is the only model that has 2 -yes 2! of those ru...

Fork in oil

Yeah all later bikes (with 1150 GS style forks) use much more oil, see recent thread: http://www.boxertrix.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=17385

This oil is lubricant only, I added Auto Transmission Fluid and its working great.

Cured is it, Young Skywalker.

That's all it was, low oil level in later type forks. When I got off the bike the forks would appear to bind in small steps, which was down to their not getting enough lube at the top of their travel.

Normal service, smooth travel, and better feel restored.
