My RS has done the same thing. Blamed on the gear / neutral indicator switch sticking, handily located behind the rear transmission "they all do that sir". It's all sealed in apparently, so no amount of WD40 on the outside is going to help. Workaround is to pull the clutch in when starting...

Teflon

I've seen a couple of mentions of teflon lubricant additives and protective waxes recently. Has anyone had any experience of these, and are they worth it or just another way of parting us from our cash?

Judging from the forecast you've got two clear days - unless you get flooded out!

Hope it goes OK...

OK - I'll post you a PM at some stage. I'll be around most of the time - dogs, wife, children and house constrain holidays! Have a good trip - sounds great.

Funnily enough I was reflecting that driving standards seemed to have improved as I wobbled home last night. Filtering not much of a problem even with the bargy panniers on, people letting you out to overtake if need be, and actually using the LH lane on the motorway, shock, horror. I came up behind...

Lumme - they've gone up in price, haven't they? Odyssey from Motorworks was £79 all up in 2006; now it's £94 plus postage... I don't know whether gel batteries actually do last much longer than conventional ones - I've reckoned on about 4 years from a conventional battery, so 5-6 years is up to 50% ...

If you've got a freebie go for it. I did one with Warwickshire bill last year and it was well worth while. We did about 300 miles over two days, cross country and urban; challenging but enjoyable. An excellent refresher if you haven't done any post-test training recently.

Just a thought but...

These new Volvos with the proximity devices; if you roar up behind one, will it automatically go faster?

I like mine; reasonably quiet, well ventilated, watertight and comfortable. Supposedly not available in white 'cos people might think you're the Bill... When I first got it, it flipped open of its own accord which was interesting for a mo; luckily not going too fast. BM have always provided reasonab...

I think most drivers would benefit from riding for a year. I am sure it would make them more bike safe drivers.

Agreed - but you can just see our leadership buying into that one!

Thoughts on near misses

Caught POB's post late - excellent effort & hard to think what else you could have done. At the time whatever you do is going to be wrong, and hindsight is a wonderful thing after the event! FWIW my Bikesafe course last year concentrated on overtaking and junctions. One of their absolute no-nos ...

If you're in Yorkshire and in the market for boots you might check out Altberg - saw this in the Torygraph recently:
