Beachcomber Don't know about your relations, but my post above was recalling the event I saw personally at Darley Moor in the 1974 season. The bike concerned was a spine framed Triumph 500 twin. Next meeting he had Amal GP's back on the bike. Glad you had good use with the Wal Phillips device. I was...

Heard of them and even saw one once being slung over the hedge at a race meeting followed by the cursings of the rider / mechanic. A 60's device supposedly giving better fuel / air mix than the old Amal carbs on the various bikes back then. Reputedly about as accurate as turning a tap on for your ho...

LH indicator switch
Dragged the 1100S a bit over-enthusiastically when trying to move it sideways in the garage. Unfortunately I caught the orange indicator switch on the left bar and now it doesn't return to neutral when pressed. The indicators still work and the cancel button on the right bar still cancels it, but it...

Boxerscott From your original post, I assume you mean how many of us bought the bike we still have (as opposed to bought a one-owner bike, which means we are the second owner)? Me for one - coming up to 30k miles now (had others which kept the miles down on all the bikes). I will probably keep the b...

I just bought a new GS one about a year after I had the bike and it speeded up the turn in and raised the rear ride height so that I wasn't decking out the cylinder heads as much. It didn't feel any less stable in a straight line and still didn't need a steering damper, was just as planted and stead...

Corvus Don't forget that Mr Diesel's patented compression ignition contraption has a completely different flame propogation in the combustion chamber to Mr Otto's 4 cycle petrol engine. The diesel runs wide open throttle at all times and the CR is in the order of 22:1 or above to heat the air so tha...

From memory so could be a bit wrong here and there - The hemisphere is the smallest and best shape for the combustion chamber. It only gets fouled up when there are big lumps on the top of the piston to increase the CR then you end up with a longer flame path to burn all the mixture. Back to the sku...
