I tried three screens on my 1100S way back. And I found none reduced wind noise at all but they did reduce wind blast and a propensity to lifting my helmet up (standard screen).

Having seen several lights with holes in or cracked in work I'm a bit paranoid about it now :D Headlamps are expensive covers are cheaper. If your lamp has a hole in the glass it will fail the MOT. Just because the switch clicks don't mean is actually working - No Pump noise from the rear brake - so I'd say I'd say switch is the culprit - I'd check that the switch was actually getting power to and from it first before worrying about fault codes etc.
