Re: I'm Riding Backwards for Christmas
First of all "well done" to the MOT bloke, not many that observant and conscientious .... er, thank goodness. I'd definitely get it turned around, tyres are so important for keeping you on the road it's not worth the risk ... then there's the usual insurance aspect too. Whoever fitted it w...

Re: R1200ST - Nice, low mileage, wanted
I’ve always liked the ST as a true sports-tourer, with what BMW do best.......... luggage. Some are truly shonky colour schemes, which only seem to amplify the ugliness ........ But - if you get a chance..... the metallic grey scheme is quite kind to the shape, and with some clever graphics - could...

Re: R1200ST - Nice, low mileage, wanted
Thanks for all the info on the R1200ST servo/ABS - really useful to know. It's a bit worrying to hear that two of the very few R1200STs around have been written off in accidents. They say things do come in three's................... :( I'm not riding mine until I hear about the third write off !! B...

Re: Will BMW ditch telelever?
Would they be ditching it because of public perception or are there practical / cost reasons too ?

I think you'll find that most if not all of those technologies are a lot older than 20 years - i.e. sodium filled valves on the 1930's RR Merlin V12 & post war Manx Norton.
Oops, sorry, I didn't know that !!

Re: How long is a modern Beemer designed to last ?
I agree with a lot of what you're all saying and I'm probably not expressing myself very well, what I'm interested in is not so much what can go wrong ( of course that's part of it though ) , I'm interested in when the engineers expect the bike to "wear out" or to reach the end of it's use...

Re: How long is a modern Beemer designed to last ?
I see what you're both saying but I'm sure the engineers will be thinking of considerably higher mileages than that. They certainly need their GS's to comfortably tackle a round the world trip ( 20K mls ? ) and not expire immediately on return, that wouldn't be good PR or corporately acceptable for ...

Re: Track Day
Stick with the 11S, maybe not ultimately that quick in terms of lap times, but at least as much fun and there's that sneaky little smile you allow yourself inside your helmet everytime you stick it up the inside of a Gixer in a heavy braking area !!
Surprise a few people and use the 11S I'd say.

Re: Fuel
I use 98 when available as I am of the same mind as Justcruising. Don't think BMW have shares in all of the fuel companies so no benefit in specifying 98 unless its needed. I use 95 as well and difficult to tell the difference on the road but i'd rather not use the knock sensors to retard the timin...

Re: Who changes their own tyres?
I do. Reasons are as follows, It works out less expensive. You can do them at home. No hanging about. Freedom of choice to take advantage of pair bargains. other maintenance can be carried out while wheel is off. No silly wheelrim weights that fcuck with your paint. (They are irrelevant anyway on a...

Re: Tips on How to ride a R1100S
They don't really like being "off the throttle" thru' curves, they're ultra stable and prefer to be driven thru corners. Get on the throttle earlier than you'd expect, more like a Ducati in this respect, you can carry a lot of speed. Hold a higher gear than you might feel you need ( while ...
