Tube Strike - London Routes?

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a route to get from Baron's Court / Hammersmith in to the City - where Moorgate crosses London Wall? Usually I dump the bike at my mate's place in B Ct and Tube it in; bus substitute seems a joke. It's a few years since I tried getting to the City from the W...

I picked mine up at the NEC Bike Show - http://www.customearprotection.co.uk. I had tried mouldable plugs but found they made me feel quite isolated from what was going on around. So I went for vented plugs which cut down the noise but let enough sound through to still keep you in touch. They're com...

One of the guys on the RS forum got caught out last year:

They're a menace in Warwickshire as well - bounce out into the road and then stare gormlessly at you as you try to miss them.

Personally I wouldn't risk it anywhere near paint or electrics - unless it's really gentle... I cleaned some tarmac with an industrial unit over the winter and there's no way I'd apply something that powerful to a bike (sadly)...

Average Speed (Traps) Safety Cameras

Trundling through some roadworks on the M4 on Friday morning (50 limit) I had time to inspect Big Brother's yellow average speed camera things. They seem to be angled in to the traffic, thereby reading the front numberplate but not the back - is this so? Is this one tax we may not have to pay (yet)?

I grew up between Wadebridge and Padstow. It depends on how fast you want to cover the ground, but once you're West of Bodmin you're pretty much stuck with the A30. The run across Dartmoor is fantastic, but then you can get bogged down on the A38, so be patient. Oh, and for pity's sake keep a look o...

Anyone remember (was it ) 1981? The big freeze up of all time. Nigel B Vividly - I was a student in Bristol and it was never more than -9C for three weeks, during which time the bike sat outside the flat - no idea how the battery didn't freeze up. Fun while it lasted though. Went everywhere in hiki...

My quickest was a scarcely credible 90 minutes to do Wheatley (Oxford) to Bristol x-country (A40, Bibury, Cirencester, Tetbury, C/Sodbury, M4 and in) - 80 miles or thereabouts. On the R65 again - given its comfortable top whack of about 70, I'm a little doubtful, but that's what I thought my watch s...

My longest / hardest trip was from Balachulish to Bristol on an R65 - 450 miles or thereabouts, but I had stuffed my knee climbing & it hurt like hell. A couple of years back the ever-loving and I did Warwick to Verbier and back over a January weekend (720 mi each way plus ferry). Day out, a day...

Re: Dont be as stupid as me

Had one of the most interesting rides today. gus I got caught out in the snow last winter. Fumbled up the M40 following tail lights - not too bad; then left the Mway, put my foot down at the give way and it just slid off towards the ditch. Sweated the 6 miles home in 1st & 2nd gear; all on the ...

Your sticky crud may be molasses - popular in Warwickshire for the last two seasons and added to salt / grit to give it a bit more body... I've bodged a set of GS hand guards on to the RS and they cut down the wind chill on the hands well - even look vaguely OK. Coldest ever trip was in the snow fro...

Mine's an 1150RS and it's fine. Handles well, comfortable, stops on a sixpence if you have to, 200mi+ range, reasonable weather protection. Only real niggle is the panniers - they hold b_all unless you have the touring lids on, but with touring lids it's a right barge in town (OK for motorway filter...
