Re: Suspension & Piano Playing

I suspect you have to do an awful lot to get it right, like tuning carbs or plastering - the latter not really having factory settings :D

White Helmets...

So this the last outing for the White Helmets - another little piece of motorcycle culture consigned to the scrapheap... I can't help thinking it's another 'old school' decision. Firstly it should be fabulous marketing if done in a way to attract today's audience - not sure the existing offering com...

Re: NC500 route

The NC500 website has lots of info and Google seems to be useful. You might still have to plot your own route though. Basically start at Inverness and follow the coast one way or the other I think... NC500 divides opinion and in high season can be a nightmare apparently. The roads simply can't take ...

Re: when you buy a bike......

I reckon it takes a year or two or two major services to sort out a fresh bike. On my RS (airhead) the most pernicious mod by a PO was to fit smaller jets in the carbs. Presumably in an attempt to improve fuel economy but all it did was to fry an exhaust valve and nearly wreck the engine... Thankful...

Re: New York in late September - any pointers?

You lucky thing, I'm a country bumpkin through & through but I love NYC. In addition to the great ideas above... Take out another mortgage and take Tea at the Plaza (you need to book online), just off Central Park. Utterly epic. And / or breakfast at the Pershing Square Cafe opposite Grand Centr...

Re: Don't make em like they used too

Hi all, been away for a while so catching up. For beemers I think the high point was with the R100 monoshocks which combined simplicity, tech and effectiveness before the suits got hold of the whole thing. My R100RS easily holds its own in any real world biking situation; sure it's not fast off the ...

Somewhere to camp near Moffat?

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows somewhere reasonable to camp near Moffat, on my way back from Scotland in a couple of weeks? Either wild camping or a proper campsite. The trip itself seems to working up fine; Warwickshire to the in-laws in Yorkshire via mates in the Peak District, then back ...

Cassington Bike Night 26 June

With my new-found 'flexibility' I've volunteered to marshal at Cassington. Sounds a blast - Easy Rider hits Ambridge; they're expecting up to 7,000 machines and 9,000 visitors for what is basically the village fete based round the village pub. To my surprise and gratification the RS now qualifies as...

DIY Trackday?

Having lived in the area for 30 years I discover that Fish Hill near Broadway is only 20 miles away. Tried it out for the first time this week - lovely sunny Wednesday afternoon, bone dry, perfect. On a mid week afternoon with no traffic it's a blast - smooth tarmac and odds of visibility; and it oc...

Zen - Tech or Banter?

Probably banter; anyway, Robert Pirsig of Zen... fame has died - an 'interesting' character! A book I've never got round to reading, but who knows, it might help me improve my spannering... https://digitaledition.telegraph.co.uk/editions/edition_fpD7k_2017-04-26/data/314651/index.html?share=1&WT...

Three Seasons in an Hour

Took the RS out for an hour's potter and took in spring lambs, blazing sun and a blizzard. Great fun though so long as I could escape some mind-blowing traffic (why do they route multiple 18-wheelers through villages designed for horse and cart?) and some correspondingly chewed up road surfaces whic...

I gave up chocolate, in support of Memsahib, who's working early on the Beach Bod.

Have utterly pigged it today and now I feel sick  .

IIRC you can get hardened valve seats fitted at a price...

Or, Frost Restoration do a lead substitute: http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-car-b ... 500ml.html.

Re: non-starter R1100S all of a sudden! - won't turn over as if battery is flat, but its not.

R11xx starters seem to be something of a consumable... I swap knackered ones for a reconditioned unit from Motorworks, very helpful. Also i take it off before the winter and give it a good clean, ACF50 etc for the salt. I crushed the electrical feed from the oil pressure sensor when refitting once; ...
