I'm a big 'roads' fan and the two losses this year are terrible. I presume his lads were practicing at the NW too? Terrible for the family. I remember Robert having his big crash with the collapsed wheel in 94(?) at the TT, how lucky he was to survive that, and how he came back to race again. And th...

I've found my R1200S to be a cracking road bike. You need to use the final part of the throttle to get the big power but that's not a major issue because (a) it makes the bike nice to ride when not riding at 100% and (b) you don't need to use that big power to make very quick A-B progress anyway - t...

Ignoring the possible inconvenience of having your oil dumped all over the road, I'd wager that the cost of replacement heads is significantly cheaper than the cost of new plastic fairing panels on a Jap bike! So it's all relative and arguably not worth the bother fitting protectors. Having said tha...

I bought a pair of Hideout made-to-measure gloves around a decade ago and am still wearing them. Excellent quality, though I don't think they do gloves any more. Obviously I can't comment on their quality nowadays, but I still love my old gloves. For my 2-piece, I had a made-to-measure set by Zak le...

I agree with you, Duncan, I find the R1200S is a superb road bike, only let down by the lack of an oe hugger! And it always gets loads of admiring glances/comments, even from car people. I was happy with the Nippy service, but not mentioning the need to remove the wheel was a bit unsporting in my bo...

I have a Nippy hugger. I eventually sussed out that you have to take the wheel off. Mr Nippy doesn't mention that on the website, funny that. So I'm waiting for my next service to have it fitted by a dealer at (hopefully but unlikely) a modest cost. I was happy that it would probably clear the tyre....

Manx GP ramblings
Just back from a few days on the Isle of Man, for the Manx GP practice week. Thought I'd bore you with some ramblings. It was my first time back since 1998 and I was looking forward to seeing how / if the Island had changed since my last visit. First off, it's still not cheap to get there. Race week...

LRP petrol on non-cat boxer?
I've seen this hinted at in some posts, but can someone clarify -
on a R1200S without the cat, is it OK to run LRP petrol, and are there any advantages / disadvantages over 'super' unleaded?
Thanks,
John

Thanks!
Thanks Peter. I'd sussed out the symmetrical business, after a lot of brute force and old Anglo-Saxon adjectives, but the strap was baffling me a bit. It's nearly done now. I suspect it'd be a lot easier with someone to help, for leverage/etc., particularly when working in a confined space! Should g...

R1200s Remus header pipes fitment
Has anyone fitted the Remus header pipes (the ones that remove the cat) to a R1200S? I'm trying to fit them, but the gaps between the pipes and the engine block are not symettrical - the n/s is approx. 3cm and the o/s is approx. 0.5cm. I presume this can't be right!? Anyone know the best technique f...

new R1200s guy, West Mids
Hello Everybody, Just to introduce myself... I've just purchased a near-new R1200S (silver) and it's rained every day since! Oh well. I'm new to BMW but not to twins so the bike is not too much of a culture shock. Early impressions are that it's a stonking road bike. Hope to enjoy the forum and mayb...
