Must have been a slow news day.
OBD is the gateway to all of a modern vehicles sytems.
It would be scary if you could do it wirelessly, but most people will notice an OBD cable connected to a laptop.

My last word on this. Maybe I need to work on explaining? A dynamometer measures torque. Power is calculated from torque and engine speed. Wikipedia, encyclopedia Britannica and how stuff works agree with me on this. One more time... Bike on dyno. vROoooooM Dyno sees torque applied by and speed of r...

To be honest I really don't think it matters what you buy. The real differences are when you look at the different categories (domestic, enterprise etc). The internals are all from the same couple of suppliers and even the casework seems similar in a lot of cases. I bought the Mrs a HP Ultrabook thi...

Sorry but I am getting lost now. Yes the dyno measures wheel torque, but it also knows RPM. So beep, bap, boop a plot of corrected torque/power vs engine speed. Which at the end of the day is exactly what the punter wants. The fact that it may not be particularly useful is a bit daft. The fact it is...

The dyno measures rear wheel torque. To massively oversimplify. Assume that transmission loss is 10% over the whole rev range in a single gear. The bike does a run. The Dyno also knows. Engine RPM. Once the run is complete the dyno correlates the wheel speed Vs engine speed and torque output and app...

I was going to post a link to red barchetta but work got in the way. Meh in the main. The barrier to entry for any serious bike is only going to get more onerous in the future in the name of safety. Plus kids are utter pussies and complain that being cold/wet is against their human rights or somesuc...

Agreed, but putting an engine on the dyno is not straightforward. And most motorcycle transmissions are broadly similar. What we have now is a reasonable approximation. That's enough for pretty much anyone not doing homologation work or similar. In a lot of cases the absolute number may be of second...
