Re: RoSPA Coventry Open Day
OK so let me put the question out to all who say they have benefitted . What did you learn when you were undergoing the training that was completely new to you, that you didn't know before. It's not so much things that are completely new, but a host of refinements across machine handling, observati...

Re: RoSPA Coventry Open Day
Fontana, you criticise advanced riding groups, and imply that this is common sense stuff that people should know, but you also admit to having benefitted from advanced tuition, albeit one to one!? You can't criticise people who want to improve their skills in whatever way works for them. My first ev...

You are absolutely right and I apologize.
I'll bow out of this one.
Actually, change of mind. Might as well carry on the discussion here. Other have commented also, so carry on.

Re: Where you going on your bike this year?
Have to wait until September for my trip this year. We alternate continental trips with UK trip, and this year it's Scotland for a week. The plans have yet to be finalised, but we have already covered quite a lot of the area on previous trip. I think this year we are going to go to John O'Groats and...

Re: RoSPA Coventry Open Day
A Police rider once told me that the IAM are a nice bunch of people, but they are to the Police system of riding, what the St. Johns ambulance brigade are to the emergency medical services. Your police rider obviously didn't encounter the 'condescending sanctimonious pricks' that you encountered th...

Re: RoSPA Coventry Open Day
The image that advanced riders / riding has amuses me. People think it's motorcycling with the fun taken out, but the opposite is true. If you learn to position properly and handle your machine appropriately you can get so much more out of rides. Most of the people in my group have been riding for ...

Re: Shorty Pipe for R1200S
I have seen it done, but the guy simply fitted an aftermarket end piece after the cat. It looked OK, but I can't imagine it helped the fuelling any.
Where did that picture come from? I presume it is a mock up / photoshop?
I don't know what to suggest, but good luck.

Re: Helping Fellow Bikers
I stopped to help a fellow biker the other day near Harlow, she was a pretty blonde girl who'd come off her R6 on gravel in the centre of a main road. She was unhurt and her bike was just about ride-able ( bent brake lever ), she was with a bloke on an R1 and her ( also very pretty ) brunette frien...

Definitely take him up on his offer Mr Boxercup R. Good beer and good roads down that way. The Germans are very hospitable.
Re: 20/50oil
Castrol 20W/50. Its what BMW (used to) recommend, so I go along with that. I don't see much sense trying to save a few quid given the limited miles I do. Annual service, oil and filter, £50ish from Opie. Job done.

It looks like the DOHC engine, so not 12s. Maybe 12r?
