Horsepower makes headlines. Torque makes the earth move. Nods .... always prefer torque to high hp outputs :) Higher horsepower at the "prime mover" end will give you more torque for any given wheel speed. The job of the gearbox is to provide ratios that match the two ends. The job of the...

173bhp peak power...... All those who have actually delivered peak power on the roads - one step forward, please! Peak power requires peak load - only deliverable at top speed, with full air drag. Al :) Peak power requires a certain load. But is it necessary that the load take the form of air drag ...

There was a programme on TV a few months back where they showed several listening devices on the bridge attached to monitors and you could see a the wave form and hear the pings of the individual strands of the steel cable snapping ..... it was a bit scary. However, I did wonder why can't they just...

With some of the devices that clip onto the existing "drum", converting it into a larger diameter, how do you go on with alignment of the cable running into the opening in the throttle body? Will the cable rub as it is (perhaps) no longer aligned? Or is this not an issue? Edit: by drum, I ...

........ And yes, a larger 'drum' would increase the weight of the pull, However within the relatively small area of a twist grip and the extra girth of the grip puppies the extra weight of the movement is unoticeable. Mmmm. Now that is interesting. You've just described a free lunch! There can't b...

I have subsequently found that the addition of 'grip puppies' with this mod makes a noticeable difference. The extra circumference of the grips means less turn for the amount of throttle. Are you sure about Steve? How does increasing the circumference affect the amount of rotation required? DT Yep....

....... If the action involved was 100% "tangential", as in the bicycle chain analogy, then, yes, a larger diameter twist grip would make the difference. ...... Makes yer think. I've been thinking! The larger diameter grip will tend to slow the action down not speed it up. The mechanical ...

It's only effective if the cable is on the larger corcumference........ The grips are subject to angular displacement by your hand - that doesn't alter with diameter Al This cropped up a few threads ago and my first reaction was as yours above. But then I stopped to think maybe the action involved ...

So, according to the report, if you run the cars under exactly the same conditions, except you start with a hot engine, then the emissions double (or whatever). What I don't understand is that it seems, by that logic, the car is CAPABLE of running under those conditions and still meeting the lower e...
