Wanted: R1200 LCD display
My dad is having some issues with the LCD display (no light, some functions not visible) so we were thinking swapping it with a display from a decommissioned instrument cluster perhaps would solve the problems. Anyone got an instrument cluster lying around which was decommissioned due to other fault...

Re: Rough running R12S
These symptoms for me were cured when the valve clearances were adjusted. Twice in the 90,000 miles, these symptoms appeared and both times the valve clearances were the cure. As they are so easy to check, I always head for these first followed by stick coils. Valve clearances were fine, it's only ...

Re: R1100S for sale
I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone paying premium for the BCR paint-job, perhaps 500-1000 above normal price. I struggled selling mine (normal) and that had much less mileage, ohlins shocks, remus full system, basically all extras, and that was advertised for 3350,- Considering the BCR is...

Re: Tail tidy - ridiculously small plate
Would it not be less hassle to keep the right side of the white line? Shouldn't bikes be allowed on all bus lanes? Currently the councils are running a money making scheme by randomly not allowing with seemingly no reason, while tfl allows us in all bus lanes. We can't be a bigger problem om...

Re: Tail tidy - ridiculously small plate
thing is if there's no plate you can argue it's just fallen off and I beleive it's a £30 fine with no points, however, doing other things can be construed as attempting to pervert the course of justice and that's a much more serious offence :) But whereas there are no police around doing any kind o...

Re: Tail tidy - ridiculously small plate
Remove the plate altogether - same offence as a tiny plate being displayed, but nowhere near as much demonstrable intent! As you say, there's nobody out there enforcing anyway, take your chances and if you get a pull....it must have fallen off. :) Pete Reckon it would get towed while park that way....
Re: Service
Oh, yeah you're right. But does anyone know ?
Re: Service
Sorry for bringing this live again, but having just had a look at the service schedules I feel a bit confused. I thought it was as simple as a 6k service every 12k miles and a 12k service every 12k miles, alternating, and if you don't reach these mileages in a year then throw in a yearly service in ...

Re: Rough running R12S
If it's completely dead then you can feel that it's not working by putting your finger on it. Possibly other mechanical problems with it could be determined this way. If one side's cylinder is running rough perhaps you can hear it as well, I'm not sure whether or not an IR temp reading would reveal ...

Re: Strange handling
Why would the ball joint on the tele-lever affter turning one way but not the other? Just the way it is. If the ball joint fails it is usually due to wear on one side - hence making the bike difficult to steer and pulling When you see a ball joint removed you can see that if its failed its stiff an...

Re: Rough running R12S
Mine shown only that a coil had failed in the past, I think you need to have a significant part failure for it to show up, things such as steppers not arriving at their positions even if they believe they have, not sealing properly or poor performing coils probably isn't noticed...

Re: Rough running R12S
My thinking is that: 1. If the problem is there all the time it can be a broken coil. 2. If the problem is there ONLY WHEN HOT then it's a malfunctioning coil. 3. if the problem is there randomly COLD AND HOT then it's a stepper engine. And then of course you can have any combination of the above. C...

Re: Rough running R12S
I think: If it's heat related = coil issue If it's random and ignition cycle cures it = stepper motor Or in worst case a combination (which ended up with although initially it was just the stepper). If it happens on cold engine then you can temporarily rule out the coils and sort out the failing ste...

Re: New Harleys
Don't Harleys and adventure bikes appeal to the same segment? People who want to go slow, sitting straight up avoiding leaning, comfortably as in their sofas, accessory junkies and most importantly wanting to buy in to a group style to offset their otherwise unadventurous lives (may that be the look...
Re: Clutch
Trapped air would indeed cause a longer lever travel and less clutch action ie it would engage earlier as the lever in reality perhaps just performs 80% of its action...
