Re: Basecamp

Good find.

The problem you have with Google Maps is that it recognises the closed alpine roads when are planning your summer hols thereby diverting your route.

Try TYRE. Can convert to either TomTom or Garmin files.

Re: Trackdays

I suppose any nationwide "trackdays.co.uk" vouchers won't be possible to use? Regarding clothing, what are the restrictions on gloves, boots and helmets? As the track days are run at MSV venues their rules apply. Never heard of vouchers being accepted at BMW track days. Read the terms and...

Re: Bikeshuttle

Not far from me and worth it time wise. Or it is 2 days of motorway bashing to get to the mountains and then 2 days back. So effectively changing it from 4 days in the mountains to 6 before flying back.

Re: Primo giro d'Italia

Epilogo We were looking forward to this trip. It is was to be the longest we have spend on the bike together touring. A massive thanks to Simon Weir from Ride Magazine who emailed suggestions for a route. Thanks Simon. The planning had to be done in such a way so we had ample time for stops but stil...

Re: Primo giro d'Italia

Quarta parte It is time to finnish this ride report. After a late night in Grenoble eating al fresco we could feel colder air moving in. The weather forecast looked dire and we had a lot of miles to cover to our next overnight stop. The alternative was to take the motorway rather than spending a mis...

Re: Oil, a different take.

I always thought that the requirement for different grades of oil was because of the piston speed. The higher the piston speed the more complex the oil construction and hence you end up needing full synthetic oil. Oilhead beemers have a low piston speed so semi synthetic is ok.

Re: Which year of R1100S is the best & why?

The last production of the 11S all came with the sports pack meaning 5.5' rear wheel and the suspension from the Mamola rep and the upgraded alternator for heated grips and power socket.

The best 11S is the one that is paid for, kept tidy and ridden regularly.

Parte terza

Tuscany. A dream destination depicted as idilic by many a TV house hunting program. In reality it is just an extension of rural Italy where the roads are so so. A bit further on and the views come into play. We were stuck in a valley for some distance but now we are climbing into the hills. At some ...
