THe main thing I would say is don't over estimate your daily mileage, especially if you have a pillion, with my wife on back I try to aim for 160 mile days as that gives plenty of time to look around, not too bad if you have 1 or 2 days with bigger miles, but even with an extra 50 miles they know ab...

Just found this website, If you are travelling and can get a reasonable wireless signal, you can get most of the freeview channels for free, never have to miss strictly again
Works here in Poland and belive on other parts of the world, not restricted like BBC iplayer.
