Re: Rear Plastics Removal (R12S)

Brilliant! Thanks Pete. It helped to know that I should pull rearward and a squirt of WD40 helped. The "retaining pin (3) light" is a plastic pin that is part of the light unit, and used for retaining the rear panel. It is not, as confused me thought, a pin for retaining the light. :-) Tha...

Rear Plastics Removal (R12S)

I need to take the rear plastic/bodywork off my R1200S, and I have removed all the screws and the 2 X clips which hold the two halves together. But there is something still holding them on to the bike, right at the back end where I can't see or feel. The panels are quite loose now, but still held by...

Re: 5 countries in 4 day

Sounds absolutely brilliant Chris. Except for the bad weather in France, of course, but that is soon forgotten when the sun shines.

Re: How long is a modern Beemer designed to last ?

Interesting discussion. I'm not sure if the views expressed so far are cynicism, pessimism (both of which I'm renowned for) or a realistic view of the current world of manufacturing motorcycles. Having grown up with motorbikes of the fifties and sixties, where you needed to be able to wield a spanne...

Re: Cyclists

I'm a cyclist and have been for nearly 60 years. I agree that cyclists who cause danger or are inconsiderate to other road users, especially pedestrians, should be brought to task (trouble is lack of beat bobbies to do so). I would also like to see the very dangerous attitude to cyclists by a minori...

Re: tonight 5pm

I always used to go the A68 route when going home to Dundee, but last time I went (on my VFR750 - so must be 16 years ago), I triggered a load of speed cameras - fortunately all front-facing - while overtaking slow moving traffic. So I've never gone that way again - A7 to Edinburgh now. Is it still ...

Re: R1200S values?

Getting back to my ORIGINAL topic (which by the way was the prices being asked for the 12s), there are 9 on ebay as of today, with the lowest price being £5500 for a 24k 06 plate. The top price is £7295 13k on 07 which seems a hell of a lot for a 11 year old bike that was never a great seller when ...

Re: Todays F1 no spoiler

I live a few miles from the track, and it persisted down all day, but in spite of all the evidence to the contrary, I believed them when they kept saying it would clear up enough to race. What amazed me was how they kept the show going for so long before it eventually descended into farcical silline...

Assen BSB?

I've been hoping to get to a BSB race this year and had pencilled in Knockhill, but that trip didn't happen. Caldwell Park is a good one for me, but this year I've got a prior engagement and same for the two after (one is Silverstone, but I don't really like that track as a spectator anyway). So, th...

Reg plate light

It seems that having a non-working reg plate light is now an MoT fail (as of this year). Mine (R12S) hasn't worked for some time and it isn't the bulb. I haven't yet found a good wiring diagram online to make tracing the fault easier. As far as I can see from a first quick look, the wires from the l...

William Dunlop

Just seen the very sad news that William Dunlop has been killed at the Skerries 100. Headline is "motorcycle racer Dunlop killed", and I immediately assumed Michael, since he always look on the very limit.

Re: Dreaded insurance

I stayed with Bennetts again this year. £350 for two bikes, but that includes a couple of extras, such as RAC breakdown, legal, and leathers & helmet. The minimum, without extras would have been £299 plus £20 arrangement fee. I'll probably do a meerkat search this year - I usually do a change of...

Re: GDPR Fatigue

I thought that you had to 'opt in' & by not replying you were declining the offer to receive further info, have I got this wrong? Some emails, rightly or wrongly, are saying that I don't need to do anything to continue receiving their "service" (junk mail?). I went on the RSPB forum y...
