Thanks for your input; some sensible advice in there. I certainly agree that buying a 'project' is to be avoided for me. Also some interesting alternative suggestions.

Cheers.

It's the maintenance demands that I enjoy. I enjoy servicing and spannering almost as much as riding. But I'd need to enjoy riding it too, otherwise no point really. And that's the reason for my question; to see if others mix modern and classic and get fun from both. I've done a lot of reading up on...

Classic 2nd Bike?

Coming up to retirement and don't want to give all my merge pittance to the state/kids. So I'm seriously thinking about getting an old British bike, just to fettle and ride on warm summer evenings (if we ever get one of them again). I like the look of, and could afford (just) a BSA A10. Most others ...

'twas exactly a year ago I took my new (to me) R12S for a tour up to Scotland. I met up with an old school friend in Dundee and we went up north into Aberdeenshire. The weather was overcast first thing but the sun came out and we ended up, late afternoon sitting by the harbour in Stonehaven, basking...

Nice looking bike, Gary. Perfect that the sun came out for your trip home. Of course you were just being tentative on the way back - new bike an all, so it's right you wouldn't keep up with your brother. That would be my reason/excuse!

Many happy, safe miles on her (the bike that is).

First Time in a Month...

...that I've been out on the R12S. ooooo yeeeees! Cold air, dry roads - you just cannot beat it. Orgasmicly brilliant (steady on there).

Three hours later, I'm still grinning. :D

Has there been a better invention than the motorcycle?

This is Quite Amusing

An early motorcycle education film. I like the staged accidents and the emphasis on motorcyclists having a reputation for being kind and considerate. Also the piece on riding in snow...

Being a tight bastard, I only ever smoked other people's ciggies. They soon cottoned on and stopped offering. So, a narrow squeak for me that I never got hooked, due to my meanness. So why don't I have the cash I would have spent on fags? One of life's little mysteries. Good luck to all, less mean s...

EU or Not EU

My two passions of gliding and motorbikes are under threat from excessive EU regulation. The recent threat of type approval, where we cannot change any part of the drive train, from air filter to tyres unless it's type approved, is a classic example. So my immediate gut reaction to the PM's announce...

Brilliant Dai, and very, very true. I remember the little bottle of olive oil in the bathroom cabinet. I think it was used for curing ear ache! My wife and I have tears of laughter running down our faces. The central heating has broken down today, and the engineer is coming tomorrow :( But this has ...

Like it Steve. When I were a lad in my first real job in Dundee (we're talking 45 years ago) I was sent to a customer site in Brechin. It had started snowing heavily when I set off in my mini (car, not skirt - what do you take me for?). I got about half way there and decided it was getting a bit too...

What a brilliant, inspiring program! I just watched it on iPlayer. Thanks for the heads-up el-nicko.

Is the next episode next Sunday?

Thanks again.

Thanks for the replies. Two questions Popsky: Does the tailpack fit as-is or did you have to do any mods/fit brackets? Was the one you used the 50 litre size? There is a bigger one but 50L seems quite spacious to me. Being a cheep skate, I'm tempted by the price if it works. I just made the mistake ...

R1200S Luggage Solution?

I don't really get on with the tank bag that came with my R12S, and my old Oxford tailpack doesn't fit securely (or at all). So I am thinking about getting panniers for it. I suppose the purpose made BMW hard panniers would be best but expensive. But has anyone tried this product? I think I have see...
