Don't recall the R1100S racers using cyclinder head protection; saw them race in the Bowercup at Oulton Park in 2002 I had the Touratech head protectors fitted and they were reaonably tough surviving three lowish speed trips down the road. Last spill was when I was rear ended by a car when stationer...

Had looked into a ferry to Iceland but: A) Found you need to get from the UK to Denmark (which is another ferry & day each way), B) It was then something like a 3 day crossing each way with a stopover in the Faroe Islands, and C) you will need to sit down from the shock when you see the Denmark ...

Looks like a Vandelinde pipe. A quality bit of kit, originally also supplied with an engine chip. Was about £800 to you sir in 2000.

Sounds lovely when you wind the bike up.....

"they" own the equipment and apparently (small print)have access to your roof whenever they want. Not for me even in sunny Devon, and I would not buy a house with them on. Al. Would suggest you check with your mortgage lender if going down the road of 'renting' your roof to a solar compan...

ACF50 seems to spray better if you have slightly warmed it. I usually leave the can on top of the central heating radiator for 1/2 hour whilst cleaning the bike.

You are using the bike outwith BMW design parameters. 12S only meant to be ridden on dry, warm sunny days and kept in the garage when weather threatens rain

Metzeler Roadtec Z6 seem pretty good tyres on the ST. Current set has been to Scotland / Morocco and are still in fairly good condition after 6k miles a lot of which was motorway / fast A road running down through England & Spain. Tyres also stable at speed fully loaded - 133mph max (according t...

I received an e-mail from Ride magazine in June 2007 seeking owner feedback information for an upcoming article on the R1100S. I sent a reply but had not heard any more or seen anything printed. I stopped buying Ride magazine some years ago as the content was not up to much and was rather repetitive...

Hyperpro also make shocks for the R1100S. I have a set (F & R) fitted to my bike and they are superb compared to standard fitment.

I have seen a couple of German R1100S at Garmisch which had a single PIAA spotlight mounted in the middle of the front suspension wishbone just above the mudguard. Seemed quite effective. Beware uprating the bulbs to 100W. I did this in an old Honda car that I owned - 100w/80W on dip. When I had to ...

Metzeler Roadtec MEZ6 - £190 fitted to the bike and are giving more miles than the Bridgestones BT020's that I used to use. I was typically changing 020's, rear at 4-5.5K and fronts at 6-7k however the Metz seem to be lasting a few thousand miles more per set.

I had a loan of the R1200R whilst my R1200ST was in for a service. The R is a good bike, wide bars made it very manoeverable around town, it was comfortable, and somewhat lighter than the faired bikes such as the RT or ST. I have always loved boxer twins, and this type of bike makes far more sense f...
