R1200s 'Colgate' for sale £4500

I have decided to list my 1200s to see if there is any interest. Asking price is £4500. (edited to reduce price) I am not prepared to consider offers at this time.

17035 miles and in great condition. I am the second owner and have had the bike for approx 7 years. First owner did 1200 miles. The rest are mine. Home serviced, although brake fluid done by dealer at appropriate intervals.

Added options are:

Colgate paint
ABS
Heated grips
Solo seat cover

Dunlop roadsmart tyres. Front nearly new. Rear has maybe 2-3 k left in it.

BMW cylinder protectors
Radiator mesh grill
I will also throw in the BMW battery tender and ABBA stand with the correct fittings.

It's been well looked after and not ridden as much as I would have liked because of commitments elsewhere.

Just got back from a great week in your neck of the woods, dodging the worst of the rain and scrubbing the edge of the tyres on some fantastic Welsh roads.

I'm not sure yet. If the S sells then the replacement might be something like a KTM 990 SMT.

I need something more upright, but i am not ready for an adventure bike yet, hence something with a road bias.

In that case be sure to get a ride on an Aprilia Tuono, absolutely cracking bike.I am really loving mine, the riding position is so easy to live with and the power, torque and handling are quite superb.

I will see if I can get a test ride on one. I have been thinking about naked bikes as a possible alternative. The riding position is critical for me due to an eye condition. (Difficult to explain, but the closer to upright the better). The S is really comfortable for my height and build but the position is not working for me because of my eye problem, which is deteriorating as I age.

Hi Herb,

SMTs are great bikes. The plain SMs are fantastic bikes too. Both have superb suspension, and share the same engine. The SMT having a little less travel, slightly lower spec suspension, a bigger tank and a more comfortable seat. (+ the fairing and stuff).
Very much quicker than their specs would suggest :D

Having looked at current pricing I appreciate I am asking top money for a bike without the much sought after sport pack.

Therefore asking price lowered to £4500. I will not go below that price, as I would prefer to keep it. £4500 includes the bike with options as listed above, ABBA, BMW tender and solo seat cover.

Maybe I should sell the hard to come by solo seat cover for £4.5K and throw in the bike for free?

I got my single seat cover for £125 - plus postage but that wasn't £4,375 :wink:

Seriously tho, nice looking bike. Good luck with the sale. I've absolutely no regrets buying mine

+1 for the SMT. I took one for a test ride a few years ago. Mental really. fantastic engine, the best gearbox I've ever experienced but the seat however was a disappointment for me. I was extremely uncomfortable after 20 minutes. Perhaps because it's too upright for me. I would highly recommend taking one out. The seat is obviously fine for many.

If you get a bike that is "right" - it's nothing to get the seat, fuelling etc sorted.....

It's partially me Al. No amount of seat fixing is going to compensate for my physical need to be canted forward a bit.
