Could it be sorted so folk who join have to say were they are(at least),you have a situation now were your not even sure if they are in Europe or else were, the posting on the HP2s thing had me laughing about the 1 o'clock in the morning posting,as you would in the States.

Baring in mind a lot of boards don't even allow you to access a site without filling in a War and Piece form

Hi Chris,

In a word, not really. Even if you were to force the filling of the field, it couldn't be applied to the existing accounts and there would be nothing to stop people registering from "Toy town" or similar.

Cheers,

Paul
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Actually, you could add information automatically if none is supplied by doing a geolocation on IP address, but it requires a bit of hacking and custom code for the forum and there is no 100% guarantee that the information is always perfect. It'll always be better than nothing though.

Could be a fun exercise if you're into that kind of thing (php hacking)

Hmmm... Privacy issues in displaying somebody's location based on the ip address used for their last post?

Nice project idea though

You can geolocate on country or city. Country is generally more accurate and not really privacy sensitive.

Some free tools and code examples can be found here.

Wasn't exactly thinking post code or anything close  ,the majority do not even have a real name, but you would think folks would put a town,if someone is local your a little more inclined to help,as I explained to a new member on here the other day, what makes this board odd,a lot of folk actually know each other.
