Interesting your observations...I,ve now had my 1200ST for about three weeks. My bars are in the highest position, still below the top yoke (I didn't realise that they could be positioned above as with the 1100S). At the moment with the seat in the high position it all feels fine. Having just done an oil & filter change I will keep a close eye on the oil consumption, but just coming up to 24K I think it ought to be minimal. Fuel consumption seems to be very good, so your overall average of 57 mpg sounds about right...certainly better than the 1100S.

My 1100S used to do about 45 but it was fitted with the "Accelerator" module which knocked about 3 miles per gallon off.

My 2005 R12ST used to drink a fair bit of oil if used pretty hard.
a liter per 2000 miles or so.
The current RT uses 400ml over 2500 miles of very hard riding including a track day at Folembray!

I liked my ST.

my BCR did but once it got to the magic 20,000 miles it settled down to a more normal rate :)

I bought the ST with 3k on it, took it to 33k before I Part ex'd for the RT.
I do recall the ST suddenly seemed to pull like a train at 30k, still used a lot of oil though.
The curent RT is nudging 80k now so I think this one is run in. Oil usage has been like that since I bought it with 5k on the clock.

Run em in hard, that's what my Father always advised.

I was in that position two years ago, spent 12 months doing nowt but riding the bikes and spending my redundancy money after an intense 5 years of global travel with my previous employers.

It was awesome is all I can say. Although finding another job in your 50's can be a bit challenging :( .. took me a while but eventually did :)

Being of a certain age and not as supple as I once was (also still suffering from crakd vertibrae) I decided to have go at raising the bars on the ST.

I can now ride without having to lock my elbows. Also little or no weight on the wrists. I suppose I could have bought an RT but think about the second hand price of RT's against ST's and the, usually low milage of, "for Sale" ST's and it starts to make sense.

Was it as straight forward as it was on the 1100S? Did you for instance have to replace the brake line, as I had to on my 1100S.

It was the best mod I did on the 1100S and although I am not suffering too much on the ST at the moment I feel it might be a good upgrade.

With the bars raised have you noticed any increase in turbulence. The ST has grown on me and could well be a future purchase. As an alternative to a GS or the RT, which for me at least is a little too bulky.

Biggest releif is to my elbows. It is easier to do than on the R1100S as the screen is easier to remove to get access to the clamp bolts. There's no circlip on top of the leg to remove either. But you do have to take the circlips off of locating pegs under the yoke I also removed the locating peg on the R/H side as it fouled the brake line. I did not have to change the brake line as it is just about long enough and it only goes to the servo unit so its only under any tension on full left lock (answer only do u turns to the right :wink: ) All in all less than an hour. Turbulence is addressed by a Small adjustable deflector (Hein Gericke) screen that clamps to the top of my Tall screen and allows you to adjust to get it comfy. I can ride visor open at 80 and my head is not getting ripped off.
