R1100S Brake Conversion

Hi Team,

Just wanted to share some photos of the radial caliper conversion that I recently completed. I did it because I like tinkering and wanted to create something just a little different that might not get noticed at first glance. I'm happy with the outcome and the braking performance has improved also.

I always thought my 11 had fantastic brakes. Standard with twin braided lines. How much was this and is it worth the expense? Looks good.

Hi f90x,

You're correct, the standard brakes aren't too bad. I also ran braided lines and found that made a big difference with the originals. This mod was more just a case of aesthetics/a point of difference. The Beringer calipers/pad combination do seem to give a stronger initial bite and a firmer or more aggressive feel but not overwhelmingly so. I think if I had done the Beringer master cylinder conversion then this would be more pronounced but as I'm not a ten tenths rider and didn't want to ruin the integrated controls, I chose not to do this.

The fork feet cost 540 EUR from Style and Performance in Italy. Add to that the cost of whichever 108mm calipers you choose, new brake lines, reanodised fork stanchions, new fork bushes while you're there..... You get the picture.

Have to say - that's not a bad price for the fork bottoms, considering the small market - and in comparison to other after-market upgrades.

I'd imagine that fitting S/H calipers from one of the litre sports bikes would help to keep the cost down and would perform as well as the Beringer calipers.

Very nice job Richard....although as you said it was predominantly for aesthetic reasons you could have changed the disc retaining screws for some nice shiny stainless ones at the same time :)

Oh and don't forget the rim tape :wink:

Might be a bit warmer down here but not a whole lot. Not many of those picturesque snow covered Yorkshire moors in winter here though.
