R1200s comfort seat - please

Postby steveninary » Sun Aug 04, 2013 11:17 am

Having had my 1200S for a while now it seems I am not going to mould to the
Ducati type plank that is the seat, so

Any suggestions for more comfortable options and personal experiences of them

Any one have a different seat for sale, I might be interested in a standard seat
that I could play around with.

Thanks all

Have you standard bars fitted? Reason I ask is because when I got mine it came with higher bars and the seat was dire, now having put back original bars, the weight on my backside is totally different and I now find the seat acceptable.
The only thing you could do without spoiling the look imo is get a gel pad fitted.

I've had a gel insert fitted into my seat and recovered, makes a minor difference but IMHO not worth it. The work was done by Saxon in Poole which I can recommend.

The only aftermarket option is Corbin but at £295 approx you'd have to be confident that it would work for you.

The only other option would be to get a complete reworking of the foam by a aftermarket seat specialist in the UK
Phil.

R1200S and loving it !

I just put up with the crap standard seat for shorter journeys, and then use an Airhawk for any longer trips. They're not pretty, but they do work.

Blimey.
If you think the BMW saddle is uncomfortable, you ought to try the lump of granite that passes for a seat on the Guzzi Sport 1100 I owned before.
In comparison, the Beemers seat is positively luxurious.

I have heli-bars bar risers on mine so that contributes to making the seat more uncomfortable. I have just ridden 850 miles across France (425 in the first day) and with that in mind I wore some mountain bike underwear (padded) and put a sheepskin over the seat. A lot o the GS guys do the sheepskin thing. It works!! It's not perfect but those two things made it possible for me to get to my destination without being crippled.

No :)

At the moment one of my seats for my funduro is off being recovered at the local upholsterers, another damaged seat is on and to stop weather getting into a split in the cover I've popped a black sheepskin on it. Over the last few days it's got very wet and no ill effects.

Happiness is a wet wooly ;)

Nothing wrong with sheepskin seat covers mine are now 3 year's old and have been out in rain snow and sun and still smell a lot less than any of my jackets when wet

A self inflating sit mat from the camping shop only let it inflate about half way then put a sheepskin cover over the top works well for me John just used the same set up when he did his iron butt ride (still not had confirmation back from the USA) i think the milage was 1760 in less than 36 hours
My bike shines when it rains!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bought a seat from them a few years ago, not the quickest and I had to do an exchange with my original unit , but they did a lovely job to my design ,colours and stitching. I'd have no reason not to recommend them.

Well I looked into the Top Sellerie option a bit more and they had one listed with gel inserts as a special offer price, something i think they knock out cheaper to take up the slack in customer orders.

Contacted them and they said i could return it within 7 days if its not what I wanted.

So its been ordered :?
