Easier gear-changing

Over the last year I have developed pain in my left big toe, and realised that the gear lever has been the cause -despite wearing good boots.

Took linkage apart for clean and greasing, but that made little difference...had a look with boots on and realised just how far I have to move my foot in and under the lever, and that the bone in my toe had grown a sore lump. Next stop web search, and found this:

[Gear/brake lever enlargement sleeve] 'Schalthebel Verlängerung für BMW R 850 / 1100 / 1150 GS + Adventure R 1100 S' for EUR 20.99 http://ebay.eu/Ow3oRS Two styles, this variant has smooth aluminium finish with four o-rings.

The well-designed and beautifully made sleeve slips over the existing rubber and rolls easily as you change gear, but doesn't fall off.
Comfort restored! £26 well-spent!

Many thanks for the info.

I have ordered one of these today as I to have a similar problem. I was looking to do a mod on the gear lever, so hopefully this will resolve without making something up.

Thanks for the posting.

Just done a major service, and for the first time used fully synthetic Comma gear oil (GL5) in the gearbox...cost £9 more than the Comma semi-synth oil I have been using.

Oh boy, what a difference! Up-changes are much smoother, and Down shifts are like having a new box (steady boys!) fitted -the tractor noises are almost gone...

Worth the extra to me, now a shopping list item.
