R1100s Sat Nav mount

Since raising my bars above the yokes on my R1100s I've been very dissatisfied with the look of the positioning mounts cast into them.

I decided to do something about it today!

12mm Stainless Solid bar - 150mm long - I rounded out the ends
Filed a 10mm flat 15mm long at either end to help it sit flat.

Drilled and tapped an M6 blind hole at either end @ 130mm centres

Slid over 100mm length of heat shrink tubing.

Bolted it on using M6x10mm stainless cap heads

Not only does it make a great mount for a sat nav (Standard sat nav bars are 12mm) but it also helps locate the bars and tidies the cockpit area up no end!!

Oldish thread...
But great job, this has two of the jobs I'm looking into for mine...
First off that bar is great, I'll look into doing that to mine... Once I've moved the bars...
On THAT point! Is your's ABS or non? If non, what did you do about the front brake hose? I tried moving my bars above the clamp today, but found the hose to be too short...
What length did you fit if you had to change, and where di you get it?

Anyone know the reason for lifting the clip on's above the top yoke in the first place, was it to take weight off wrists ?

Where do people fit their sat Nav mount with the original bars set up ?

Yes, It's for comfort :D
At least it certainly will be for me... I'm to old for all that weight on the wrists!

Thanks for the inspiration!
I finally managed to get the bars above the yokes after the longer pipes arrived...
And also wanted to somewhere to mount phone and camera, so did something similar, if less neat!
Bought 22mm ali bar, cut to length, and cut notches to both ends to flatten it out, drilled holes, and inserted m6 bolts from under the clip on, secured with bolts above. As I say, not as neat, but probably easier for the average joe :)

This was my effort on my R1200ST when I moved the bars above the top yoke. The tube is from a redundant solar garden light (with a piece of wood shoved through it (so that the bolts didn't crush the tube). the long bolts where then covered by some flexible black tubing I had lying around and the end caps where made from the tops of gearbox oil containers. The ST bar had grub screws in the bar locating peg holes so they are what fixed the lonng bolts in position. I am the shed man! :P

It is now redundant and hanging in my shed.

Hi Tunneruk, Nice looking job, I was looking to do similar on my 11s but noticed that your yoke clamps are different to mine, what year is your 11s, mines a 2003 model.
