painting my top box

Postby Paul » Tue May 09, 2017 8:50 am

I decided to have a go at colour matching my Givi top box to my tastefully grey R1200RS and it's matching panniers. There is a decor panel in the lid which can be removed and replaced with a pre-painted substitute. Since the Italians in their infinite wisdom don't do a matt grey replacement, I thought I'd have a go at spraying one up. I bought the primer, paint and lacquer from RS paints and turned my shed into a spraying booth. I also filled in the indented Givi oval logo with some panel filler and replaced it with something far more stylish:

Job done.

Cheers,

Looks good Paul. Same box as I have. Bought it for my VFR and then used it on the BCR - looked fugly!!! It's now on the GS - far better looking than the Vario (IMHO)

And those Givi tank bag systems are the dog's danglys too

So the RS panniers use the same fitting system as the S ones? Would they fit on an R12S, did anyone try? :)

Far more useful than the 12s ones if they did. I checked the part numbers to see if the 12s panniers would fit my mates F800s - the outer aprt looks the same (as it does for the K13) but the part numbers were different - Perhaps Mr Parry could make enquiries?

No they won't fit, I offered my R12S pannier up to Chris's R1200R WC to see if it would fit, but the distance from the mushroom to the bottom rail is too great.

I meant the other way around; R12RS panniers on the R12S...

Nope, just a standard Givi product name, "V46". I did briefly toy with the idea of getting a sticker made up in multicoloured cartoon letters to read "THE TOP BOX" to stick next to the V46, but then I got myself a life instead

Same panniers on the R1200R as on The R1200RS, if R12S won't fit the R12R Or RS then.....R12RS will not fit the R12S :|

Depends on why they don't fit; if the R12S ones don't fit because they don't have an exhaust cutout, for example, then the RS ones with a cutout could very well fit, but not the smartest use of space of course... If they don't fit because the rails are differently shaped then that's of course a nail in the coffin...

The r1200rs panniers in the frame are "Touring cases" The R1200s panniers are" system cases". They will not fit. Boxered compared them at Wales. No way Matey.
