You may have confused the SRX600 with the SZR660. In fact they were very similar bikes separated by about a decades worth of rolling chassis technology and the same amount of development time on the Yamaha 600/660 lump.

I had a hoot on that bike, doing as many of the Swiss alpine passes that I could reach in a day from my home in Baden, AG.

You're right - i am getting confused. (It was a long time ago).
I think it may have been the SZR thingy I was riding.
It was mainly silver, fully faired, extreme riding position, with the single cylinder Yam lump.

Gromit.... I had 3 Laverdas.... 2 x the 1200 Mirage I think it was...you know the one with the little 3/4 fairing, luverly... then the best one.... "the proper" 180 crank Jota.. Orange the full bit. I actually bought it from Slater Bros in Collington (I lived in Malvern) Lovely sound. I loved triples after this .... I traded in the Jota would you believe for a T595.... also a lovely bike. I wish I had kept the Jota.. but christ was it top heavy... and my left arm is now 1.5 time the size of the right.

The only sewing machine I have ever owned was a Suzuki GSX1300 I think it was big slab of a tank.... did 1000's of mile in France on it... but oh so boring... You will not believe I traded in an R100RS (RDD 777R) for this..... What a mistake.

My first bike (You always remember your first.. was a BSA C15. My girlfriends dad said I could have it if I could build it up from a box of bits..... I did and the only thing missing was a small steel clutch pushrod and ball bearing.... I made this and and had a fantastic bike for nowt. Used to ride around the Malvern Hills...Jubilee drive and all, with no helmet.. it was legal not to in those days. Oh what fun.

This is how it all started for me... and I have never looked back. Paid out a lot of brass since then though.

Nostalgia.. don't you love it...

Err yes well..... The old ones are a labour of love/cash, and I suspect they always will be. Having said that, I still love them dearly. I've not ridden a Ducati newer than 1998, so can't comment on them.

The first was a 1980 900ss bought in 1983. I took it to Greece 2-up for 3500 miles, and only had 3 mechanicals . Half the small bikes I had were bought as transport for when the Duke was knackered, an all too frequent event with the bevel engine. I sold it to buy a GSXR 1100K

I've since bought another bevel 900ss and rebuilt it to better than new, making a nice bike but it cost me.

The 916 was beautiful, but unbearably uncomfortable, and had no power, and the Pantah I bought and sold as a non-runner.

They make great hobbies but aren't much use for real transport.

And I've still got two of the blighters......

Ride some, and if you like one, bear in mind that it'll require a bit of pampering/expense.

ditto.....see above.

You know, know matter how the rational side of me tells me that my C15 was an unadulterated piece of shit, my heart still skips a beat when I see one listed on fleabay.

In truth, though, that pile of junk put me of DIY vehicle maintenance for the rest of my life.

OK, here goes (year is when I bought it)

1972 - Raleigh Mobylette (an original pedal power moped. Bought for a tenner, sold for a tenner).
1973 - Hxnda C50 (I thought it was the dogs whats its - until I fell off)
1974 - MZ250 (all I could afford as a student)
1975 - MZ250 (bought from a mate after I forgot to put 2 stroke oil in the first one - oops)
1976 - Hxnda CB360 (rubbish - all my mates had Hxndas and this was the only one I could afford)
1976 - Hxnda CB500T (bought new for £795 as an offer from Hxnda as original list price was £935 - we all make mistakes, it was even worse than the press said it was)
1977 - Hxnda CB400-4 (brilliant, toured all over the UK with it)
1978 - Hxnda CX500 (good bike, just quirky)
1980 - BMW R100RS ( the one with the huge silver fairing. Brilliant bike - went abroad on it countless times)
1982 - Kawasaki GPZ1100 (the first with fuel injection - pure hooligan machine with a stonking engine and a frame with a hinge in the middle, as I found out when it spat me down the road at 80mph - or was that the 4 pints at the pub?)
1984 - BMW R100T (sanity returned and so I came back to BMW - added a fairing to make it an RS)
1987 - Yamaha FJ900 (why did I get rid of the BMW - yes the YAM was OK but yawn, no character)
1988 Kawasaki GPZ900 (probably the best Jap bike I owned - looked good, rode well, gave plenty of fun back - or is that the wife???)
1990 - Mortgage Payment Z1000 special (sold bike to pay for deposit for new home to keep wife happy - some hope)
1999 - Suzuki TL1000R ( It did exactly what is said in the press - super fast but the handling - dear God it was frightening. Took it round the TT course and scared myself to death)
2000 - Kawasaki 900C1 ( nice toy - I did what you are not supposed to do and sold the Suzuki to a bloke in a motorway car park, taking the Kwacker in part ex. The bike was mint and ran well)
2002 - Hxnda Blackbird (bought from a supposed 'mate' at work. Bought it in the dark - my own stupid fault, and found out in the daylight that in 3 years he had managed to destroy a great bike - it had as much corrosion as if it had been stored in a damp salt mine, so I spent a long time and a lot of money restoring it)
2005 - BMW R1100S (you all have said it before so I won't repeat it)

1972 H*nda C50
Then cars until DAS in 2000
2000 Fazer 600 went like stink after a CB500
2002 TDM850 Utterly reliable and ugly. Great Fun!!
2004 TDM900 Nicer to look at, just as reliable, but I prefer the carbs to inj
2006 XT600E For track day/commute/world tour. OK, trackday was a lie.
2006 R1100S Beautiful. Does everything well.
2007 Ducati900SS (pre injection). A joy to ride. look at or listen to.
