Hey guys - new to the group and picking up an R1100s this week - can anyone give me a quick heads-up on the control/instrument layout/operation? Can't find an owners manual online anywhere! Picking up and then riding home - 330 miles! Cheers.

Congrats on your new bike, I'm sure you'll love it. Regarding controls, It's pretty standard apart from the indicator setup, where you have paddles under each hand to turn the indicators on. The general consensus seems to be that the first time you ride one, they feel different to any non-BMW bike you have ridden before, but stick with it, you'll soon get into the groove and appreciate the stability through the corners that the telelever front end gives you.

Thanks Paul - looking forward to the ride - Gloucester to Edinburgh - picked the best day of the week (tomorrow) according to weather forecasts so hopefully a nice run up. I'll give my feedback on my 'boxer-virgin-run'.

So, picked up the bike from Gloucester after getting the train down from Edinburgh at 7am.
Bike all good, excellent condition and rides great.
The 360 mile trip back was mostly fun. M6 was a nightmare but managed to filter through the 'car park' and keep moving. Two stops for fuel, got around 120 per tank, and one for a stretch/coffee. Took me 6 hours, once past Birmingham it was clear on the roads and a good run. Only a few spots of rain so quite lucky.
Controls all good, the indicator cancel switch took a bit of getting used to but no issues. Will probably look for a set of handlebar risers, I'm 6'1" and after a long ride was a little stiff.
Just waiting for the 'Indian summer' we've been promised so I can get out, solo or with any groups in around Edinburgh!

Glad you made it back ok and enjoyed the ride.

Welcome, 6 hrs is not a bad first ride, a lot of people have fitted the bars above the top yoke rather than get risers, several threads on the subject, you may have to buy new front brake Lines, rapid dog barbacks are also popular and he is presently doing another run at the moment, see the ad in the trade section.

yeah, just kidding myself on the 'indian summer' I think! I should know by now having being in Edinburgh for 6 years (after 4 in Tampa, FL)!
