Good morning from the wet Welsh Borders

Just thought I'd nip in here and say hello. I live up in hills near Oswestry having taken early retirement from Teaching and spend most of my time either working on bikes (I do service work for the locals on condition they put a donation into my Irish Air Ambulance box :D ) rock climbing, or teaching skiing abroad during the soggy months. I've got a reasonable collection of other bikes and I Moderate on the UKBEG Buell forum (I'll put photos in the appropriate section later on) and have just bought a year old R1200rs from the Chester dealers. Most of my other bikes are arse up, head down types, and I thought that a Beemer would be a bit on the boring side, however, I've been pleasantly surprised - can't wait to give it a proper spanking on some dry Tarmac. Today's job will be making some alloy frame supports to fit panniers as my my mates have a 'lap of Europe trip' planned on their Monkeystradas. Well, that's me, but no doubt I'll be along shortly with some tech questions, so be patient, I'm new to this flat twin malarkey

Welcome Adam, you have some nice bikes there. As a fellow 1200RS owner let me compliment you on your choice :D , what colour did you go for?

Cheers

Ian

I can't see a 'Wanted' part of the forum, but if anyone has a set of pillion grab rail to fit the RS, I'd be very interested in buying them. The rack now fitted, will be kept for long trips. Ta 8)

Nice choice of bike, you won't be disappointed. Like Ian, I went for the same, but in blue and white like yours.

Adam - there is a great R1200RS forum on the 'net, called R1200RS forum...and i just sold a pair of pillion grab handles on there yesterday - they are like hens teeth, and will run you £250 from BMW. Good luck

I read on the forum that you can't stray into there until you've made 10 Posts. When I reach the magic number, I'll put a request in there.

Thanks, I'll have a lurk on there. Otherwise, the new sticky rubber I was going to fit onto the Trials bike this winter will have to wait and I'll bite the bullet.

I bit the bullet today and nipped up to Chester and bought a pair. I ordered them late yesterday PM, and got a call this morning saying they were there waiting for me. Most excellent service 8)

Welcome along.
I guess you'll have already met Steve (moderator of this parrish) if you bought the bike from Chester BMW.
There are a few of us around locally (I'm down by Nesscliffe) who get together for the odd ride and a pie and pint or a curry.
Be good to meet up sometime.

That would be good, thanks. I get down to Nesscliffe quite frequently to go climbing. There's a secret bike collection coming up for sale in Shrawardine soon. I was down there two weeks ago with a mate, giving the widow some idea of value. My mate came away with a Triumph GT6 that was parked in a corner of the barn. I'll let you know more about the auction when I've got permission to 'go public'. My little prize that the widow gave me was a copy of 'Chassis Design' by Tony Foale, a book often regarded as The Bible by frame builders.

Indeed I have met Steve. A pleasure to do business with, he didn't even need to put my arm up my back and wrestle my wallet out of my pocket either - like my wife does
