Hi from Ireland

Postby bcr_rep05 » Fri Mar 30, 2007 2:21 pm

Hi,

I just joined the site as I've recently bought myself something I always
wanted - a Boxer Cup Rep. After going through some classic Kwaks
(Z900's and still have a Z1300), Yamaha's and a Triumph triple I bought
my 2005 BCR last week with just 1800 miles on the clock from a BMW
dealer. They seem to be very rare over here in Ireland.
Anyway, this seems like a great site for people into R1100S's and just
wanted to say hi so ......Hi !

Mark.

Welcome Mark,

I hope we can be of some help and advice to you in the future. Please ask any questions as I am sure there is somebody here who will be able to answer it.

Enjoy riding your new bike. How about posting some photo's of it on the bike pic page.

Thanks guys !

Yeah I've been very impressed with this site ! So much info here....'specially
for a boxer virgin !
The funny thing is, I went to a BMW dealer to look at a K1200R that a
friend of mine bought.....that's when I saw the BCR 1100 in the corner !
It was a case of love at first sight. Having said that, I think all R1100S are
a great bike. I especially love the handling and the "engine brake".

I'll look into posting a few pics now..........

Thanks again for the replies !

Mark.

Thanks for the welcome !

I've been to the UK but never on the bike. Although that may very well
change ! I need to knock up some miles on it.........
By the way, how long does it take before these engines "open up" ?

There was only 1800 miles on it when I bought it last week. Is it true that
they use a bit of oil when the engines are new-ish ?

All depends.................

Mine used a bit for the first 6k miles, but now (15,000) it hardly uses a drop :D

Can't think of anything special I have done with it - just used good mineral oil.

Mate of mine with an S just told me to buy the cheapest oil out there.

Gromit recommends the Harley oil, and if the bike doesn't consume much - I might just try it.

(The can's probably got leather tassles on it  )

LOL @ leather tassles...........you might be right there !

When I bought it from the dealer's, they said to watch the oil until some
more miles go on it as it might use a small bit.

I'm slowly learning the ways of the boxer motor.........! (Thanks to this
forum).

When you get to the UK check out North Wales, trust me, spend a few days exploring and it'll blow your mind. All the best, Mac.

@ cc mac: Thanks for the tip ! Handy since North Wales is too far from the
ferry port. Good roads I presume ?

@ nab 301: Hey nab, how are things in the "real capital" ??! Have you
been up around the Wicklow Mts. on the R11 ?

Early midweek (evenings is good )at this time of year ,keep well away at w/ends especially sundays , (and i'm not worried about the uniformed guys , more likely to get collected by some lunatic on a bike).
