Welsh Weekend 2016

Postby slparry » Sun Apr 17, 2016 3:44 pm

Loved the weekend with everyone, the weather Gods were very kind to us, it was cool but sunny. I got to run in one of our demo bikes for the weekend, an R1200RT LE in San Marino blue. Nowhere near the KGT's loony power but very willing, great fun and best of all I'm picking one up on Tuesday to replace the K as my big tourer. The RT handled exceptionally well and even running in had enough range to have "fun" :D

Bit of a shock to wake on the Saturday morning to see the mountain tops had had a dusting of snow, thankfully by the time we got into the hills it had melted :)

The Wild Pheasant Hotel again did us proud in fact they upped their game quite a bit to be honest, to the point that I'm very reluctant to make any changes for next year as had previously been mooted. The group dinner was especially good.

The route was a simpler one, slower paced at times but with different sections to cover moorland, fast A road, scenic routes etc. It's a route I do a few times a year and love it. My mate Paul, ex Triumph Tiger now an F800GT, did back marker duties.

We stopped for morning break at Machynlleth, petrol at Devils Bridge, lunch at Rhayader Dams Visitors Centre, petrol at Dolgellau and afternoon break at Bala lake.

Roughly the itinerary was

"10 am WPH to Machynlleth for 11:20 and 40 mins coffee break

12:00 to Rhaydar via Llyn Clwydog > Devils bridge > Elan Valley

arrive at Rhayader at 2pm for 1hr lunch leave at 3pm for Bala at 4:40pm for 20 mins coffee then 30 mins back to WPH for 5:30 ish "

I think there were 7 R1200S's this time, a couple of RT's, a sprinkling of K1x00S's along with the ever present 12GS's

Got back at 10 to 6, tired but happy. Thanks to Phil, Karen and Gary, my excellent riding companions. Thanks Steve for organising another cracking weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed the riding and the craic. Good to catch up with many and to meet some new folk. I thought the WPH was tip top - no complaints at all from me. The food was definitely better than 2 years ago. We certainly got lucky with the weather - or was it due to SLParry sacrificing the last two virgins in North Wales...?

Mike :D

PS: I lied - one complaint: where was me effin coffee last night :?:

So what can I add to this post……………

Just Bl**dy excellent, rode some new roads and old, good banter with fellow trixters, weather on the whole was good if a little chilly but made bearable with the help of the heated vest  ( I guess I'm getting soft in my old age, but at least I was toasty )

Good food and the spa on Friday was Topps  [smilie=taking bath.gif]

Cracking ride out on the Saturday, good to meet up with all the guys some I have met before and some new.
Good safe progress by all and an excellent meal at the end of it all.

Thanks Steve for organising and leading, also Paul for sweeping up duties as tail end charlie.
Been riding in north and mid wales for 40+ years and Steve still finds roads I've not been on before - magic.

Roll on the Flash tour (if I can make it) and Hawes.

Excellent day out.. :)
Rode up from Brum in snow `flurries`so spent the first hour defrosting, progress somewhat erratic ( more than normal :) ) as I could not feel my hands to brake/change gear, but after the first break really enjoyed the day out over some well chosen cracking roads, a nice variation.

Many thanks to Steve for sorting this out, its really appreciated. Nice talking to you guys.

Sorry we ( Nick-GSXR and myself) left in somewhat of a hurry after the final fuel stop with out saying `proper goodbyes` , a return to Brum and nagging wives meant time caught up with us.

great day, many thanks

Steve ( Street Triple)

cheers
