Paradore Hotel Alarcon. Here we met Simon Pavey and Tom Wolf who were running a bmw off road adventure. Paradores and Pistes out of Valancia. 10 off road specced gs`s. a support vehicle with lots of spare parts and a mix of North Americans, Brits and Euros practising their bike breaking skills. www.malelobo.com

Tarifa. A Sunday rideout from our base in Montejaque. the plan was to visit the Roman site at Bolonia Beach (Baleo Claudia) but it had closed the doors for the last tour 5mins before we arrived. This was after a torturous descent from Cortes de la Fronterra down the a2304 which saw the Griso and pillion well out of their comfort zones. An ice cream on the beach had to suffice before our equally testing ascent from the south coast.

Image

The Rock. Moroccan mountains in background. Our ascent from the south coast. View from Gaucin. The scenery, prospect of wine and restaurant kept our spirits up on another testing leg for my Griso. 190 mile rideout. The ride is forgotten the scenery always a great memory.

Parador Hotel Trujillo. Sadly we did not get chance to enjoy this facility. We had a mishap that required recovery from our base in Montejaque. So a relaxed ride of 267 miles became an endurance test squeezed in between 5.30pm and 10.30pm. On the plus side we had a nice couple of hours in Ronda taking lunch and the last of the 28 degc temps. The Griso now came into its own stretching it`s legs into the dusk and night on the Autovia north after it had expelled the last of the H20 into it`s mighty jugs. 95mph cruising and a hectic stretch round the Seville south ring. Strong engine no doubt.

Finally after another night of fireworks and Paradore at Avilia we arrived here in Cosgaya, Cantabria just near Potes and Fuente De. This is the really fantastic Hotel De Oso. Great value for money, privately and family run. Highly recommend. Handy for the Santander Ferry leaving only an 87 mile morning ride. The roads from here to Asturias and the Picos are well worth a holiday in themselves and we plan to do this next year.

A smooth run home aboard the Pont Aven and the Griso slotted in my van for the 404mile ride north.
