Crypto virus

Postby Boxered » Sun May 14, 2017 11:49 pm

If you have been watching the news this weekend you will have seen the problems that the NHS amongst others are having after being hit with the latest version of the crypto virus.
we discussed it here 3 or 4 years ago viewtopic.php?f=18&t=18719&p=156444&hilit=cryptoprevent#p156444

basically it encrypts all of your files ( photo/docs/music) and they will unencrypt on the payment of bitcoin.

If you keep up to date with your windows updates and have up to date antivirus software, even the free versions, then you should be safe. If you regularly back up your files to an ext device then please detach it from your PC afterwards as if you do get caught with this infection it will rapidly spread to any connected items such as ext HDD or flash drives or local networks.
As advised in the link above there is a preventative measure above that of your AV by way of cryptoprevent plugin
https://www.foolishit.com/cryptoprevent ... revention/

We have used this plug in to help protect all of our customers for the last three years and not one of those protected have yet to have been hit.
This has been a Boxertrix customer service announcement.

No I think it is only hitting Microsoft operating systems, so apple and Linux users should be ok AFAIK.
