Will changing the colour scheme devalue my bike?

Hi,

I want to paint the silver wheels, rocker covers, and fork lowers, of my r1200s black. is this likely to affect its trade-in, resale value as it will be non-standard?

probably not, that`s not enough of a change.....as long as its done well, and not dayglo pink..

If the dealer is properly clued up, yes it might.

Won't stop them trying to seel for ore as it has one off paint etc.

Ok will try and post some pics at some point.

Have taken both wheels off tonight and will be taking the tyres off and leaving at the powder coaters tomorrow including vat £100 for both which I thought is a pretty good deal.

Just hope the bike doesn't fall over as is balanced with axle stands under the barrels and a trolley jack on the cat!

Had to drill out one disc bolt and the front wheel bearings were a bit of a challenge to remove until I realised its a tube between them and not part of the wheel casting.

Just have to decide which tyres now.

Ok, mine's a doggy old 11S in black'n'yeller, but the bottom of the forks are black and, I think, look pretty good. Also thinking that black wheels will work - with suitable rim tape of course

Likewise, mine was an R11, but it may give you an idea of what the black paintwork would look like?





few other bikes Ive changed a bit ( wrecked / f***ed up depending on your point of view.. ) on there also

I changed the colour of my first R-1. I opted for "Stonewall and grass" finish - all over, and yes - it did appear to devalue the bike somewhat

I think I see the problem Al, it doesn't appeat to have been very evenly applied.

-and leaving it to get scabby and pitted would preserve the value?

Don't expect many dealers will give good advice on this; most I've met say 'Standard paint always sells most easily' My take on that is that so long as what you apply:
[a] keeps the weather out
[b] looks something like the pattern and or colours (perm from) from the OEM range,
-you should get a thumbs-up.
