Two weeks of R1100S ownership - thoughts.
- Damn, that engine is vibey under hard acceleration.
- The seat is lurvley.
- The switch gear is not.
- I don't need to change gear in town.
- I love the lack of dive under braking.
- Blimey! it's heavy.
- It uses oil - what's that all about?
- I miss the 13K redline on my old Hornet.
- The unfussed pull from the engine is sweet.
- Manufacturers of add-ons think that you must have money if you own a BM - everything is 50% more expensive.
- Silver and yellow bikes are slightly quicker off the mark.
- It looks awesome and somehow repels dirt more than my Hornet.
- I need a dry day to rid myself of the previous owner's chicken strips.
Overall I'm more than well pleased with my purchase.

Vibey engine? uses oil? expensive add-ons? funny switch gear?
They're all like that sir!!! welcome to R1100s ownership
The vibey engine bit I can comment on. I've just had my valve clearance and end float checked, also the throttle bodies balanced and its made a big difference, smooth as silk now, well in a BMW R1100s way!!!
You'll get used to the oil consumption, apparently it gets better after 10-15K miles.
Cheers cobbster.

I switched from a ZRX1200 and have been riding the R1100S since March, a bit of a shock to the system after the Kwak but there is definitelely a R1100s "groove" you need to get into when riding it. It took me a while to find it but once I did it all dropped into place and the grin just got bigger and bigger.

THE FASTER SILVER AND WHITE VERSION !
I agree with Gripperod 100%. There is a defined moment when you suddenly realise what this bike is about. I remember the salesman telling me this when I bought it and at the time I thought it was just bollox, though I did admire him sticking his neck out and possibly losing a sale. At one point soon after buying it I almost jumped ship but persevere and all will be revealled.
Cheers cobbster.

Hi Daz and welcome to the vibe, its not a real boxer unless it makes go numb I've had my Phoenix grey (definitely one of the fastest colours) 11s for just over a year, and apart from not being able to feel my hands and feet any more its the best bike in the world....ever And try Motorworks.co.uk for all your retail therapy needs,i've melted my debit card with them a few times and they really can't be faulted.

Two responses.....
Two dogs is spot on... Motorworks are the boys.... always responsive and very helpful... forget Moto bins.. they don't care enough.
The winkers are a joy.... so logical... If we had a vote amongst those that have used this system for 6month or more...I bet the result would be.. the majority in favour- by a big margin
Enjoy your bike.... I do

I've had mine for 9 months + 7000 miles. I commute every day ~25 mile round trip.
I've got used to the indicators The horn, I've never found it when I wanted it. The main/dip if I concentrate.
The engine's great. It doesn't seem to vibrate that much, when I start to notice it, it's generally time to change up.
I like the styling and the general look of the bike
The finish isn't that good, so keep it clean and salt free.
I think it's light. and tyre wear seems fine.
Overall, I'm well pleased
Steve

I'll post some more pics on here when I've cleaned it. It has rained every day but one since I bought it and as a result it is now covered in crap. It was showroom clean when I bought it.
For those who didn't see my thread in the new trixters section the bike has the the silver/yellow "Highway Maintenance" colour scheme, is a totally standard R1100S (2000 model), and only had 3300miles on it when I picked it up.
Still waiting for a warm, sunny ride to see what she can do in the twisties.
