Do People buy Bikes to Look at?

Scanning eBay, I sometimes come across bikes with abnormally low mileage. Why would a bike survive 14 years and 3 owners and still have just 5k miles on the clock?

I'd be tempted to have a look at this if it wasn't so far away.

I certainly think bikes should be ridden and not simply looked at but I suppose some people enjoy having several bikes at the same time and that may explain why some remain with low mileage.

Some people are also away from home a lot and simply do not have the time to get serious miles on them.

Having said all that, I know of a guy in Aberdeen who was a racing Ducati on the wall of his games room.... :?

There are a lot of bikers spend more time polishing than riding

I'm not complaining, you understand. It means there's hope of finding a mint old bike for a relatively small amount of hard-earned.

It's just that I couldn't do it. I have to use my bike for blatting about on. Mind you, a racing Ducati In the front room - I wonder if the missus could be persuaded...?

I'm led to believe that the average annual mileage for a superbike is about 3,000 (Glass's trade guide)
I'm a fair weather rider.
My bike for me is purely a way of unwinding.
A toy if you will, but 3000 miles a year
I expect to do that in the Summer holidays alone.

My local MOT centre did the stats. Usual amount of MOT required, but desperately low on service work in the last two years. Across the board, all bikes, including superbikes, average annual mileage was 300; from June 2012 for 12 months to this year.

Will make a great bike for someone. I do like the Triumph triples, did have a test on a 1050 Speed triple, loved it.

I'd be quite happy to have an MV F4 as an ornament in the living room, I just think they're beautiful :)
