.....when a bloke of a pushbike shouted over, asking whether I wanted a race silencer for the R1100S.

After stopping for a chat it appears his R1100 was supplied with one but he never fitted it.

So I dropped round later in the evening to find both a silencer and decat link pipe.

The link pipe is in need of a clean and the silencer some scrubbing of surface rust that will I suspect not be visible once fitted.

Anyone know the make of this pipe, perhaps the bulge in the link pipe will give it away?

Looks like a Vandelinde pipe. A quality bit of kit, originally also supplied with an engine chip. Was about £800 to you sir in 2000.

Sounds lovely when you wind the bike up.....

Ta for the identification.

Hopefully it'll function OK without a chip or I'll be upset to have wasted the £15 the guy wanted for it!

err £15 quid is somewhat of a bargain. even without the chip that would sell for considerably more than your meager outlay.

Vandelinde System and as has being said £800 back in 2000. Supplied with a Chip but not always the right one!!!! Chips changed at some point in year 2000 build and if the wrong chip is fitted the bike wont start. It happened to my bike but BMW said it would be OK to run with the std chip and the Vandelinde pipe until everything was sorted.

Mmm, I am jealous and don't want to appear like its 'sour grapes', but £15 :?:

Having chatted to the bloke, seen the photo of his R1100S on his phone and heard him talk about it fondly, I am completely comfortable that his story was kosher. Then going to his house to pick it up and seen the bike that he traded for the BMW it was clear he was just wanting rid of something that he could no longer to use (and never had fitted to his bike as Southport Superbikes who supplied his R1100S fitted a legal exhaust to the bike before sale but supplied the race system as well...though he could never be bothered to fit it) to someone who might be able to use it. Genuinely nice chap.I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

On that note and having thought about it a little this week, I am doing the same (as I have two loud bikes and I am going to keep the R1100S standard) so it is being passed on (for th £15 I paid for it) to Dave the German, as he was the first to post that he'd take it if I didn't want it (earlier in this post).
