BCR Exhaust

Postby Taz » Tue May 26, 2015 5:30 pm

Recommendations please. As I am refurbishing my BCR, do I leave the standard system (with laser cans) on or do I make changes - if so, what do people suggest?

Thanks

Depends - can you wait for a Remus or Staintune to appear, and shell out around £450 for the privelage?

Go for a Y-piece and keep the laser cans, is all I would do.

Al,

Thanks for the advice. Two questions, if I may:

1) Where would I get a Y piece, and

2) Do I need to rechip the electronics if I remove the cat?

Many thanks

I'm with you. Get a y-piece and keep the Lasers. I wouldn't have said the Remus or Staintune would be an upgrade on that.

Speaking from experience go with a Laser y-piece over the Remus one if you can find one. The design is better and they're stronger.

Yes.

As said by metropolis2k, find a Laser chip and you'll be ok.

I didn't change the chip on my GS when I removed the cat and have no issues. As er-minio says, my BCR does have the Laser chip (and he's adamant you need one) but I've never tested it.

Taz

When I put a full Laser system on my 1100 I just fitted the system and rode it with no problems - kept the decibel killers in though if I remember rightly - taking the cat out made it a different bike - much more responsive.

Cannot say for the GS, but the Boxercup with the Y piece and no chip didn't run very well and very, very lean.
You loose a quite a lot of the low end with just the Y and no chip.

A Laser chip is around 100 quid and worth the expense.

I had a Mamola (chipped) and my Boxercup (not chipped at the time) together for 6 months at the time.
Riding one, dropping it at the parking and then riding the other one immediately after... the difference was noticeable.

Bloody hell! That's a chunk of change!

Hilltop Motorcycles claim to be able to re-map the R1100s, although I don't know of anyone getting it done.

It would cost about the same, but you have nothing to sell afterwards (unless you got a standard chip to replace it with)

There are some on ebayfrom Hermany for £60, might be worth an email telling them what you want to do and see if they can help.

I got it directly from the italian Laser importer at the time (same place where I bought the Laser chip for my R1150R).

I think it was around 200 euros, maybe a tad less.

Let me check if I still have the chip code, as you'll need the specific one for twin/monospark of course.

87.7010.Y
The product code for the Twin Spark Laser Eprom chip intended for bikes fitted with an Y piece.

Replacing the chip is an interesting procedure that requires some cutting through silicone to open the motoronic casing.
Pretty sure there is some guide here in Boxertrix in some old threads.
