And don't forget that all important piece of paper to show everyone how much better you are than them

I can't be arsed to read through every page again, but has anybody actually claimed to be better than anyone else? I wonder if the problem here is perception - are you perhaps assuming that people think that of themselves, whereas in reality they're just proud of having achieved something.....albeit something that you choose to denigrate?

No, but I am absolutely certain that you were a bully as a child.

Is it something you just found on line ?

fontana, my comment had a little 'lol' at the end of it....it was a light-hearted comment, meant to (try to!) lighten the mood a bit, nothing more. You ignored it, and are, yet again, trying to generate some sort of argument, for reasons best known to yourself. It was tedious before, and sadly its all the more tedious now because you seem to be reverting to your previous self, and I really thought you'd changed. Ah well.

And I've absolutely no idea who it is in my avatar - yes, its something I found online.

Everyone has their prejudices based on personal experience.
I have found that these so called advanced types are arrogant Police wannabe's with a superiority complex.
I think these organisations attract people of that mentality.
People who want to feel superior.
Anyone who feels the need to wear a bloody uniform like a lot of them do, to make sure they stand out from the rest of us is a sad pathetic loser as far as I'm concerned.
Speaking of school, do you remember the kids who were always sucking up to the teachers so they could be made prefects.
When they got that all important badge, they paraded themselves around, as a cut above.
If you were really plod, you would have seen it there, just as I did in the Army.
That's what a lot of these I-AM's are.
They tell themselves and others that they have an interest in improving their own skills and helping others do the same, whereas in fact it has a lot less to do with that, than enhancing their own ego's.
I remember a day when a mate of mine and me had a ride to a BMW test ride event.
Upon arrival, some idiot I-AM came up to us, completely un invited, and started making observations about my friends riding.
Mike went nose to nose with this prick, and told him in no uncertain terms that if he didn't turn around and bog off, he was going to embarrass him in front of all his friends.
He's a big scary bugger, and this guy went off with his tail between his legs.
I often think back on that, and wonder what sort of person goes up to a complete stranger and starts criticizing like that.
That's what the I-AM's are.
It's about feeling better than everyone else.

Oh and another thing.
When I passed my IAM test back in 1996, I decided to tell my insurer as I had heard they discounted for this.
Well they didn't so I phoned around.
Those that did offer a discount for IAM certification were at about 5%
Not exactly an overwhelming reflection of how they view the increased safety of riders who undertake so called advanced training.
I mean FFS you get that much off just for being in the AA, or the BMF.
Fact is that there is absolutely no evidence that proves conclusively that people who undertake this training are any more competent than anyone else.
It's all in their heads.

OK, I think we have covered the points and understand everyone's opinions on the matter. This topic is now locked.
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.
